New for 2008, the Lexus LX 570 replaces the LX 470 in the automaker's lineup. The big SUV seats eight passengers comfortably and offers a more powerful engine as well as improved off-road capabilities.
A 383-horsepower, 5.7-liter V8 engine powers the LX 570. The engine features dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence, which automatically boosts performance at higher speeds and increases torque at lower speeds to improve towing power. The engine links to a six-speed automatic transmission with a sequential shift feature that enables drivers to select gears like a manual transmission.
Off-road features include a Hill-Start Assist Control system, which prevents the SUV from rolling backward on a slope when the driver switches between the brake and gas pedals. An advanced suspension system with Active Height Control automatically raises and lowers the LX 570 to improve aerodynamics at cruising speeds and ensure optimal height over rough terrain. In addition, a Crawl Control feature manages acceleration and braking at low speeds over rough terrain, so the driver can concentrate on steering.
The LX 570 also comes equipped with a full-time four-wheel-drive system with a Torsen limited-slip center differential, which automatically distributes power between the front and rear axles to improve traction on any surface.
Exterior features include 20-inch alloy wheels, a metallic-finish roof rack, rain-sensing wipers, a tow-hitch receiver, and a power rear liftgate. In addition, dual-swivel adaptive front headlights pivot as the driver turns the steering wheel to provide better illumination at night.
Inside, the LX 570 features leather seating in three rows. The heated front seats are power-adjustable - 14-way on the driver's side, 12-way on the passenger's side. Power-sliding second- and third-row seats fold and stow away to provide additional cargo space.
Other interior features include walnut wood accents, a voice-activated navigation system with a backup camera, four-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable mirrors, a power tilt-and-slide moonroof, and a nine-speaker audio system with a six-disc CD changer. Options include a 19-speaker Mark Levinson audio system as well as a rear-seat DVD entertainment system.
Safety features include 10 airbags, active front headrests, a pre-collision system that makes adjustments to seatbelts and brakes in the event of an impending accident, and Vehicle Stability Control with four-wheel Active Traction Control. The LX 570 also features an 8,500-pound towing capacity.
