Automatic all-wheel drive comes with a limited slip differential in the 2008 Lexus GS 350 AWD. Front and rear torque defaults 30/70, but the automatic system will apportion it 50/50 when the road gets slick. The extra traction adds to the sporty performance of this luxury mid-sized sedan, which is fueled by a 303-hp, 3.5-liter DOHC V6. A 6-speed shiftable automatic is the only transmission. 17-inch alloy wheels hold performance tires, with the option to add 18-inch wheels with run-flat tires.
The 2008 GS 350 AWD ranks high for comfort and quality, with its standard heated leather seats and 10-way power front seats with memory settings for the driver, mirrors, and steering wheel. Folding mirrors with turn signals are new this year, along with aluminum gauge accents to go with the leather and wood trim. Cruise control and audio controls for the 6-CD changer and MP3 player reside on the steering wheel. A trip computer, temperature and compass display, dual-zone climate control, and full power features are also standard. Remote operation is key in the GS 350 AWD, and includes remote entry, keyless ignition, and a universal garage remote. There are even more bells and whistles in the standard security system, intermittent wipers, Bluetooth, and power sunroof.
Though reliability ratings have fallen in recent years, the 2008 GS 350 AWD has a full array of safety equipment. 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes, traction and stability control, Hill Start Assist, electronic brakeforce distribution, a tire monitor, and dual front-side and side curtain airbags for both rows of the sedan are all standard. Lighting the way are HID xenon headlights, automatic headlights, and foglights. All mirrors feature an auto-dimming function. Parallel parking assist, adaptive cruise control, crash sensors, and rain-sensing wipers are optional, and a backup camera is bundled with a voice-activation navigation system. An upgraded speaker system, rear spoiler, and satellite radio are the few features left as options.
