Something wrong with anti-lock brakes. Brake pedal was spongy, pushed all the way to the floor, passenger side door that opens to the back rattles when driving and wouldnt open. Needed all new shocks and probably brakes. My code reader wouldnt read which raises a huge red flag.

I drove a 1998 Ranger RWD for the past 10 years. Loved it: its size, payload, versatility, ease in traffic except I had a 4cylc 5 speed, and sometimes couldnt keep up with the 80MPH. I had 260000 miles on it. Bought it with 30000. Except for black ice in MN, I would still have it. It got totaled. The newer models and V6 and power windows and doors and better mirrors make it a great truck.

The ranger is a great truck. I have had 2 of them in the past. If you get a 4wd they will go just about anywhere.

Awesome! — I love this truck - it drives great, and the Grabber Orange color makes it a head-turner. It is fun to drive, and does a good job at towing. The only down-side is I wish it had "real" rear seats, rather than the two jump seats.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: It is fun to drive, and the Grabber Orange color makes it a head-turner!

Cons: I wish it had "real" rear seats, rather than the two jump seats.

How Would I Sum Up This Truck ? — This Ford Ranger Regular cab, short bed, 4x4, 3.0 Liter engine with automatic overdrive transmission is a good vehicle for light daily needs BUT, it could have had better engineered by way of manual lock out hubs for the front 4x4 axle and proper gear ratio's for fuel economy with the 3.0 Liter engine (the Ford F150 4.6 gets the same fuel mileage in a much bigger size and more cargo/towing capacity) . Its almost as if Ford got to the 29th mile of a 30 mile road race and forgot it was a 30 mile course.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Short length overall so its easy to maneuver and park. Its good for a small "rarely needed" pickup.

Cons: The 3.0 engine gets horrible gas mileage. 14 to 15 city and 19 to 21 highway (if I barely touch the gas pedal).

Great Truck For Me — For completely stock, she's quite torquey. 4.0L stock under the hood, along with everything else as well for now. Building from the ground up as soon as it is paid off, which will make it even better to drive. Going to drop in a 5.0L mustang engine and transmission along with brembo brake kit, different gearing in the back, re-gearing the 4wd to handle higher speeds, lowering kit, and a brand new coat of paint.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Fun to drive, fuel efficient enough for my needs, plenty of power to use.

Cons: back seats are very small

2008 Ford Ranger Fx4 — Not a bad truck. Owned a 91 Ranger and packed it in at 565000K. This is why I chose another Ranger. Big mistake. VERY VERY poor fuel economy. A fill only gets me 425kms per tank. BRUTAL. Power off the line pulling trailer is ok. Midrange is good as well but not like my 91. Not even close. Both were 5sp manuals. I've had it in for a few warrenty issues but other than that very reliable. It's a very nice looking truck with a nice paint/trim package. Rare in my area. Downfall about drivablilty is the rear end is way too stiff. Any bumps on the road and the rear end jumps sharply to the right. Always have to be on quard on gravel or bumpy roads. Over all review I give it a 3.

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

Pros: Paint/Trim Package

Cons: Fuel economy

Fun To Drive. — Handles well able to obtain 4x4 on fly. Very poor fuel ecomomy does not fair well when pulling heavy loads. Extra doors great for placing items behind seat easily yet not enough room for rear passengers unless child size or small.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Easy to transfer to 4WD.

Cons: Bad gas mileage.
