The Perfect Blend! — I have not even gotten to drive this car yet and I love it! It has a 3.2 Liter V6 making 258 horsepower and getting over 30 MPG on the highway. It maybe a relatively high-performance luxury sedan, but the cost of ownership is cheap. All you basically have to do is change the oil and put gas in it. The first schedule maintenance isn't until after 100,000 miles! The handling is incredible, as is the acceleration, and it rides so incredibly smooth. It even has navigation and a kickass sound system, with 5.1 surround sound.

Pros: Fast as hell, incredibly efficient, comfortable, absolutely perfect in everyway.

Cons: None yet!

Nicely Equipped Performance Family Sedan — So it's a sporty version of the TL with 3.5 liter V6 developing 286hp, driving the front wheels. It's nicely equipped inside with NAV, 10 speaker in-dash DVD changer, special alloy wheels, a lip spoiler and special leather seats standard. It drives smooth and quiet. Build quality is good and is quite roomy inside. As for the gas mileage, I average 27 MPG, driving slower than grannies. If I slam on the gas pedal (the way I used to drive for 20 years), the average drops to below 22 MPG. Compared to what I drove right before this car (Honda S2000), this car drives like a fat cow. 6 speed manual is offered which I would have loved to get, however, I was overruled by my better half. Manual transmission would have improved all the performance numbers as well as the driving enjoyment for me. Oh well, can't have it all, I guess it beats driving a mini-van.

Pros: Good acceleration
Good handling for a front wheel drive sedan
All inclusive packaging (NAV, In-dash DVD changer, Moonroof...)
Decent gas mileage when driven like a granny
Smooth and quiet
Dealer gives you free loaner car

Cons: Manual pedal shifting is way too slow
Suspension is not taut enough
ABS kicks in way too early
Maybe a little more pronounced exhaust sound would add to the sporty nature of this car
Ugly wheels (It's my car so it's the only opinion that counts)
Bad gas mileage if driven enthusiastically
Service at the dealership costs $$$$

Tl Scoop — Overall, TL is an amazing ride and I have nothing much to complain. Performance wise, it is a bit on the weak side and if i had the chance, i would have gone with the TL-type S. But it still comes with V-tec engine and has a good enough kick after 4k rpm. Appearance wise, it is one sexy ride and the interior is amazing too. MPG wise, TL is not a good choice. It has an extremely low miles per gallon (averaging about 23 mpg), and if you got black on the exterior and black in the interior (black on black like me)...taking care of it will be a pain in the butt. Besides these cons, TL is a nice car and I would definitely recommend it for those looking for daily driving and practical car with a bit of sexyness mixed in.

Pros: Sexy, V-tec, Practical, Fun to drive

Cons: Bad MPG

A Real Looker, Good Daily Driver, Nice Tech Upgrades Over Accord —

I really enjoyed driving my TL, and when it got stolen (d**n you thieves!!!), I realized I wanted something easier on the gas mileage and got a Ford Fusion Hybrid. However, for the 2+ years I owned this car, I constantly got compliments on the interior and exterior, and overall really enjoyed driving it. The Acura TL is a cousin to the popular Honda Accord platform, but adds a lot of technology upgrades to the mix including a 5.1 speaker surround system with DVD Audio (surround sound) capabilities, huge touchscreen, leather seats, and some nice exterior style that you can't get with the 2008 Accord. With the aggressive styling (and 286 HP / 3.5L engine), you might not get the best gas mileage in the world! I was able to get 30 mpg on the highway if I babied it, but city driving dropped to about half that (15-17 mpg); I normally averaged 20 mpg on a tank, but your mileage may vary, naturally. Finally, the fit and finish of the TL wasn't quite up to what a Lexus or BMW owner might expect; I found out how to fix the easy items (small squeaks and rattles). Be sure to get familiar with the online forums (look for TSB's / Technical Service Bulletins) on how to repair your own car, so the dealership doesn't charge you an arm and a leg for simple repairs.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Luxury style, power, fun to drive, technology upgrades.

Cons: Some squeaks/rattles, gas mileage.

Competes With The Best Of Them Without Hurting Your Wallet. — This is a nice car. It competes with heavy hitters at a reasonable price. Repairs are at honda prices. BMW and Mercedes will tag you for much more when it comes to repairs. Very quick on its feet and handles like a go cart.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Classy, smooth, 21mpg avg, quick, luxury interior, great color combination, great stereo..

Cons: Front wheel drive, low profile tires.

2008 Acura TL FWD with Navigation Review
rainab70 says:
I wanted a newer Acura but the TLX felt larger than the ILX when compared to my 2008 TL. In size, my TL and ILX felt similar but thats where it ended. The quality of the interior and driving the vehicle, my car beat the new one in all categories. I guess I should drive the TLX to get a true comparison but the bigger size in newer TLs for my personal preference doesnt work for me. I have a small frame, 5 2 & 115 lbs and like a wrap around feel.

It’s a beautiful car and it drives like a dream. Best car I’ve owned yet. I will say that unless you’re getting the SH-AWD, just stick with the Accord. The tech is outdated and honestly a burden. Read More
