The base model Forester is the 2007 Subaru Forester 2.5X. This compact SUV seats five and uses a 2.5-liter, 173-hp I4 engine and standard 5-speed manual transmission. A 4-speed automatic is available. Improved ABS and bottle holders in the doors are new for 2007. All-wheel drive, dual front and side impact airbags are standard on the 2007 Forester 2.5X.
Sitting on 16-inch tires, the Forester 2.5X is well equipped with intermittent front and rear wipers, cruise control,power locks, windows, and mirrors, fog lights, daytime running lights, tilt steering, and front and overhead consoles. The rear seat folds 60/40 for storage flexibility. A cargo tray, splash guards, rear spoiler, updated audio system, and optional satellite radio are some of the extras for the 2007 Forester 2.5X. While owners are disappointed with the fuel economy and lack of a stability control system, the overall comfort, AWD performance, and standard features are a big plus.

New for 2007, the Subaru Forester 2.5X Sports adds a few interior conveniences to the existing base model SUV. The 2007 Forester 2.5X Sports is an all-wheel drive compact SUV with a 2.5-liter, 173-hp I4 engine and a choice of 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. It shares many features with the base 2.5X, including power features, front and overhead console, intermittent wipers, 16-inch wheels, cruise control, ABS brakes, and dual front and front-side airbags.
The Sports edition features a limited slip differential, an MP3 player, automatic climate control, and snazzier alloy accents in the cabin. Option packages add on a rear spoiler, alloy wheels, splash guards, a cargo tray, and auto-dimming mirrors. Gas mileage is 22/29 mpg.

As its name implies, the 2007 Subaru Forester 2.5X Premium SUV trim adds on a lot more luxury features to the already well equipped compact SUV. It features the same 2.5-liter, 173-hp I4 and standard 5-speed manual or optional 4-speed auto tran. Featuring 16-inch wheels like the Sport and base models, these are alloy wheels instead of steel wheels. The all-wheel drive Premium all has limited slip differential.
In terms of extra features, the 2007 Forester 2.5X Premium gives you a power sunroof and heated seats that are power-adjustable. Leather trim on the steering wheel, a roof rack, fog lights, and temperature display are also standard. This is in addition to the already standard power features, cruise control, tilt steering, intermittent wipers, and MP3 playback. Two rows of seats fit five, and the rear seats split-fold flat for more cargo room.

The Sports trim is new for the Forester in 2007, and it is featured in the turbo XT lineup as well. The 2007 Subaru Forester 2.5XT Sports is similar to the not-turbo Sports in terms of features, but its intercooled turbo 2.5-liter, I4 gets 224-hp. A 5-speed manual is standard, and a 4-speed automatic optional. It also differs in that it sits on 17-inch alloy wheels.
The all-wheel drive 2.5XT Sports features limited slip differential and ABS brakes, but no traction or stability control. Dual front and side airbags are standard. As far as conveniences, power features, power seats, a sunroof, roof fack, fog lights, daytime running lights, cruise control, front and overhead console, automatic climate control, anti-theft alarm, leather and alloy trim, and an MP3 player is just the starting equipment. Options add on a rear spoiler, bumper and splash guards and satellite radio.

The 2007 Subaru Forester 2.5X L.L. Bean edition gives you a few extra features to make you feel like you're an outdoorsy type. Unlike other products in the Bean catalog, however, you can't return it, no questions asked, and get a brand new one for free.
The L.L. Bean compact SUV has a 2.5-liter, 173-hp I4 engine, but only comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission. It is an all-wheel drive with limited slip differential and, unique to the Bean trim, self-leveling suspension. In addition to all the power features and conveniences of the other models (cruise, intermittent wipers, sunroof, roof rack, leather trim, heated power seats, auto climate control), the Forester 2.5X L.L. Bean adds leather seats, auto-dimming mirrors and a compass and temperature display. Bumper guards, a rear spoiler, splash guards, and satellite radio are on the options list.
Owners like the style of the Forester and its easy handling. On the Bean edition, they love the auto climate control and sunroof. Gas mileage remains a disappointment.
