This SE coupe is the entry point for the eight-model 2006 Solara lineup., differentiated by nearly $10,000 from the most expensive Solara. The SE is still well-equipped for the price, with full power accessories, cruise control, steering wheel-mounted controls, keyless entry, and a CD audio system.
The SE's 2.4 liter DOHC inline four can be paired with either a five speed manual or five speed automatic transmission. Either way, the front wheel drive Solora receives 157 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque from this power plant. Owners and road-testers have expressed greater satisfaction with the driving experience in the manual version Solara, which may only be had with the four cylinder engine. The Solara is unchanged for 2006, two years into the popular coupe's second generation. The Solara shares a platform with the top-selling Camry, but the coupe features unique styling and different engine options. A power-adjustable driver's seat lumbar support is new this year.
The Solara Sport is primarily geared towards performance-minded drivers. This trim package includes 17 inch wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, firmer suspension, xenon HID headlights, and a special body kit with a rear spoiler. These features complement a long list of across-the-board standard features, including air conditioning, cruise control, full power accessories, and keyless entry.
The base engine is a 2.4 liter DOHC inline four, which makes 157 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. It is mated to either a five speed electronically controlled automatic or a five speed manual transmission, and enhanced by Toyota's Variable Valve Timing + intelligence technology. Despite adequate power and a substantial 3200 pound curb weight, this Solara is very fuel efficient. The EPA estimate for this model is 24/34 mpg.

The Solara shares a build platform with the hugely popular Camry family sedan, but both the front and rear ends are altered for a more aggressive presentation.
The SE is the base level trim, but all Solara models have a generous list of included equipment. Standard features include keyless entry, a CD sound system, full power features, cruise control, and a power lumbar adjustment on the driver's seat.
This model is powered by a 3.3 liter V-6, which produces 210 horsepower and 220 pound-feet of torque. The VVT-i engine is mated to a five speed automatic transmission, routing power to the front wheels. The SE models are available with either a 2.4 liter inline four or a larger V-6, but the manual transmission is only offered with the four cylinder. Drivers have expressed that the manual shift-gate is not an adequate replacement, but they still offer much acclaim for the Solara's smoothness, refinement, and build quality.

The power plant is a 2.4 liter DOHC inline four, which provides 157 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. The EPA estimate for this model is impressive for a large coupe, at 25/34 mpg.
The SLE trim is the most luxurious finish for the Solara. A long list of standard features includes keyless entry, cruise control, full power accessories, automatic climate control, a moon roof, a power driver's seat, wood trim, a premium JBL audio system with a six-disc CD changer, and Bluetooth capability. The SLE is also eligible for an optional navigation system.

The combination of the V-6 engine and the upscale SLE trim will create the most expensive Solara, but the price still falls considerably short of $30,000. The 2006 Solara lineup is carried over from the previous model year. With the arrival of an entirely new Solara in 2004, Toyota attempted to set the coupe further apart, performance and appearance- wise, from the family-oriented Camry sedan.
Standard features on the SLE includes full power accessories, keyless entry, leather seating, automatic climate control, a power driver's seat, wood trim, a premium JBL audio system with an in-dash CD changer, and cruise control. A voice-activated navigation system is optional on this model.
The Solara SLE is powered by a 3.3 liter DOHC V-6, producing 210 horsepower and 220 pound-feet of torque. The SLE models use a five speed automatic transmission, routing power to the front wheels. There is no manual transmission availability with the V-6 or the SLE trim. However, test-drivers have reported that Toyota's new electronically controlled automatic transmissions offer fuel economy equal to most manuals: the V-6 SLE has an EPA estimate of 20/28 mpg.

Opting for the convertible version of the SE trim adds about $3000 to the price. Convertible Solara models are only offered with the V-6 engine. The SE Convertible is similarly equipped to SE Sport coupe, with full power accessories, cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, keyless entry, a trip computer, and a six-speaker CD audio system.
The convertibles are powered by a 3.3 liter DOHC V-6, supported by Toyota's Variable Valve Timing + intelligence technology. The V-6 generates 225 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque, and the power is routed to the front wheels through a five speed automatic transmission. One of the primary functions of the VVT-i system is improved fuel efficiency: drivers can expect 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
