05 Tdi Jetta Vw — This is the diesel model, which is quiet and odorless, unless I use bio, and then it generally smells like french fries. I bought it with 10,000 miles, and have put on 45,000 so far. The car gets amazing fuel mileage, over 50 mpg on the highway and rarely under 35 in town! I have no clue why Americans are anti-diesel, but it's about time to get over it. The car is so far advanced in emissions it doesn't even register at the DEQ. It isn't a speed demon, but easily gets up to high speeds on cross country travel. Maintenance cost is minimal, I've only ever changed oils and filters. Stock tires are loud, but when replaced with quality Yokohamas the entire ride got way better and quieter. One problem with the trunk remote was replaced under warranty. Only problem I see is that they are very difficult to find, new or used, as they are in such high demand.

Pros: bodacious fuel mileage

Cons: comes with noisy michelin tires

Kistlers First Car And Never Agian — the car is ok could be better mine is a 5 speed Manual which is nice. The inside is banging nice sound system, black leather is sweet. The outside looks like ass. The handling is nice for a front wheel drive car it hugs turns well. that is really the only good thing it is slow as hell and has no power

Pros: nice inside, good suspension, sound system great

Cons: almost everything else

Pros: fuel economy

Fantastic Value — I know.... Jetta: Girl's Car. Not true. This Car has a polished Five Cylinder and a slick manual Trans. The Interior is second to none and the handling is on par with anything in the compact front drive category.

Pros: Power, Transmission, Handling, Interior,6 CD player, Volkswagen quality throughout, Gas Mileage

Cons: None so Far.

Silver W/ Gray, 5sp, Power Everything, 50000 Mi. — Gets spectacular fuel economy (about 49 average -- and this is my calculation, not the dumbass on board calculator). Arguably the economy is not much better than a 40mpg gas car, however, given the about 20-30% premium on diesel, but still great. 700 miles per tank without blinking.

Pros: Read the review.

Cons: Eats fuel when accelerating, so you can't accelerate quickly without taking a hit, but with the turbo, it certainly has the pep if you need it.  It does have that diesel hesitation on shifting however, but you get used to it.  Great car.

Amazing Fuel Economy, Solid Feel, Strong Engine, Quality Materials. —

This car is a series of compromises. It's just a bit too small for my family, but is solid and safe. The diesel engine puts out a ton of torque, which is great on the highway, and returns between 37 and 44 mpg for us. (With 100 petro-diesel we get 44, and with 100 biodiesel we get 37-38. Various blends of "dino" diesel and biodiesel yield fuel economy in between those two extremes.) The interior materials are high quality, as is the switchgear, but as with all my Audis in the past, the Bosch components are rubbish. In the first 30,000 miles, I had to replace three of the four glow plugs (a diesel engine component), and two brake light switches. The Panasonic-sourced stereo is crap, to put it bluntly. And this is the Monsoon, the "premium", optional stereo. Oh, I'm on the second one. The first one died. The rear brakes make a groaning noise when you apply them when backing up, and the rear wheel bearings make noise going backward too. All this started just before or right around 30,000 miles. There's a silver-dollar sized spot on the hood where the clearcoat failed. VW won't give me an answer about fixing it.

Pros: Amazing fuel economy, 650 miles on a single tank of fuel, solid feel, nice materials, full size spare tire.  Diesel engines last a long, long time.

Cons: Lousy headlights, those rotten Bosch components, pathetic "premium" stereo, poor reliability, so-so paint, the VW service experience, automatic transmisson.  (That's not to say it's unreliable.  It's a made-in-Japan Tiptronic unit that will probably outlive most of the rest of the car. . . I just don't like automatics.)
