The ES is the entry point for the Lancer lineup. This trim comes standard with full power accessories, air conditioning, a tilt wheel, cloth upholstery and a CD player. A new Convenience Package is optional, adding cruise control, keyless entry, a split folding rear seat and variable-intermittent wipers.
The ES is powered by a 2.0 liter inline four, generating 120 horsepower and 130 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed manual transmission is included, while a four-speed automatic is optional.

The O-Z Rally is now the mid-level trim for the Lancer sedan. The O-Z is also powered by the 2.0 liter inline four, but several comfort and appearance upgrades have been added. The O-Z exterior is differentiated from that of the ES by the addition of alloy wheels, a rear spoiler and larger tires. Inside, the O-Z gets cruise control, a split folding rear seat and keyless entry. Options include an upgraded sound system and a sunroof.

The Lancer Ralliart was added in 2004 as a more affordable performance option for this compact sedan. The Ralliart is powered by a 2.4 liter inline four, which makes 162 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. Other upgrades are also performance or safety-related: fog lamps, ABS, a sport-tuned suspension and 16-inch tires. Ralliart buyers can add a sunroof, a premium audio system, or the Rally Package (includes a cargo net, scuff plate, and chrome exhaust tip).
