2005 MINI Cooper S HatchbackReview

Most Fun In A Car — Think of the last time you were in a go cart at a track and how much fun you had and how disappointed you were that you had to pay another 6bucks to ride again. now imagine that even at todays prices 6 bucks will give you about 40miles of go carting. the mini cooper s is a go cart that is much more cost effective. Pros: Handling, braking, interior space, build quality Cons: acceleration could be better but still quite quick ![]() Looking for a Used Cooper in your area?CarGurus has 4,145 nationwide Cooper listings starting at $1,999. |

The S Is For Stupid — I didn't really like this car. Everything about it seemed stupid. Isn't the S supposed to be sporty? For as much as this car costs, I was expecing A LOT more performance. It isn't slow, but it isn't fast and all of the things tha tmake it "interesting" suck. The speedometer is in the MIDDLE of the car and it's huge. It's this big round thing with giant numbers that this car will never reach and a stupid gas gauge. Do you want to know where the tach is? It's right in front of the driver and about four feet away from the speedometer. WHY would anyone do this to a car? Maybe I would have liked this car if I had got the convertable and rented it for vacation. You know how you can rent mopeds to ride around islands? This should be the car version of that. Don't get me wrong I liked being in the little car... it felt cozy... but I didn't really gain much from driving it. It was more of a novelty than anything else. This is not the car for me. Pros: Good in traffic and handling was superb. Cons: Too expensive and too much hype. |

Special As Long As You Have Only One Other Person You Want To Take. — Looks great, goes great, handles great. Not very big inside especially in the rear seats - not even kiddies are happy back there. Dealers - well at 95 quid per hour they are a complete bunch of morons, taking 4 hours to change brake pads. Only got rid of it as duffed up my back and couldn't get out of it. Pros: Stylish, fun, great to drive. Best in Chilli Red with white roof, stripes, wheels and mirror covers. Cons: Very small inside, expensive and useless dealers, too many around now. Hard to get in and out if slightly dodgy back |

Gotta Love It!!! — I race my MINI in SCCA Autocross. It is just stock and keeps up with the Hondas and Suberu.. It is a great car... My Bulldog love riding in the back... Pros: Great Gas milage, amazing safety, fast 167 horsepower, supercharged just amazing Cons: Little cramped in the back but the back seats are deep so it is fine. |

Much, Much Better Than My Previous 206!! — Hard to say that I love it. First, because I'm not sure it's very healthy to LOVE a car, and second because the accelerations are not ... as thrilling as I hope they would have been. On the other hand, it handles like a dream. I've got the ESP (an optional extra, so shame on you BMW) and no matter the weather conditions, you can hammer it as much as you want. It weighs about the same as the 206 I had before, but my God it handles better! You are always looking for twisty roads just to enjoy the perfect steering, the way the car moves under braking and then the way it balances itself when you get back on the throttle! Sure, it is a bit thirsty, and costly, and I wish it had more power, and yes, the ride can be harsh on a bumpy surface, but just look at it! So cute and there's this "so British" touch that I love. Pros: Cute, British and unbelievably fun to drive, oh and it's made by BMW. Cons: Costly, too many options (speccing it up can take years!) and the suspension/dampers are a bit stiff. |
