2005 Lotus Elise RoadsterReview

A Super-fun Girl With Tattoos And Piercings That Likes To Party. — The good: Handling: Nothing beats a Lotus in handling. Perfect for canyon roads, very predictable and easy to drive. Steering: The best in the world. Never driven a car with such a precise feeling. Transmission: Feels very solid, very rare to miss a gear, excellent transmission and clutch feeling. The bad: Minimal storage capacity. Not good for long journeys, will get you tired faster. If you have broad shoulders. You will be rubbing them with your companion. Could use more power. Maybe the Exige S240 is the cure. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) Pros: Amazing track/canyons machine. Cons: Not for everyone, not for every day. |

Fun Ride — Fun to drive, great to be seen in, fast, super-cool. Engine and drive train are by Toyota, clutch is easy to use, but the engine is only really happy at higher revs. It's noisy inside, even with the touring package, the stock stereo is really bad, and the trunk is big enough for a couple small duffel bags. Pros: Exotic looks, performance, handling. Cons: Interior noise, lack of space. |

Lotus Elise — There are many words to describe this little car. However, my favorite term is, "... it puts a big smile on my face every time I drive it..." No other car I've every owned has done that. It's fast, quick in the turns, fun to drive and is inexpensive to own. I'll keep a Lotus in my garage for years to come!!! Pros: Quick & Fun Cons: Cramped & sparse interior (But who cares when it's fast & fun!!) |

Lotus Elise — It's a Lotus Elise. I could write all the same stuff you have read many times over in car mag after car mag but it would just say a lot of the same stuff. It's a total blast to get up in mountains and wail around on the roads. You know a car handles good when guys in full leathers on Ducatti's wave you by. Has been very reliable, and is fairly economical to operate especially considering it's performance level. Tire replacement every 5-8K miles does add up a little though, as does insurance, but that doesn't stop me from daily driving it every day it's not nice enough to take the motorcycle. Pros: Handling, breaking, acceleration, speed, appearance, mileage, etc Cons: if you were old or a fat bastard, it may be hard to get in and out of. Body damage extremely expensive to repair. Dealer maintenence outrageous ($300 oil change) easily solved by DIY |

Iconic Little Cheeky British Sports Car — I drove an Elise S1, very quick, good brakes, good turn in with massive amounts of steering feel, very strong and cofidence inspiring brakes, puts big smile on your face, despit all this it is still twitchy, specially at high speed (which i found out first hand :S). Pros: Fun, cheeky, quick. Cons: Twitchy, not to be underestimated. |

Great Lines, Bad Electrical System — This is a great car to have as a fun toy. It accelerates faster then most people will need and handles better than anything! Yes anything! The electrical system was a little sketcy, and it is a rough ride ... but if you are getting this car for anything other than a fun factor you are an idiot! Pros: Amazing lines and perfect handling Cons: Electrical system |
