Reduced to one trim level for 2005, the Infiniti Q45 gets a redesigned front end, hood, LED taillights, and new 7-lens HID headlamps with integrated foglights. The powerful 4.5-liter, 340-hp DOHC V8 remains the same, with a few adjustments to the downshifting action in the 5-speed shiftable automatic. Electronic suspension control with active dampening and an adjustable rear suspension improve handling. On the safety front, the 2005 Infiniti Q45 STD gets the highest marks from the Insurance Institute, thanks to four-wheel disc and ABS brakes, traction control, Vehicle Dynamic stability control, a tire-pressure monitor, automatic headlights, a rearview camera, auto-dimming interior mirrors, exterior mirrors with turn signals, and dual front-side and side curtain airbags for both rows. Added this year are rain-sensing wipers and pre-crash seatbelts that tighten when brake pressure gets applied rapidly. The 17-inch alloy wheels get a new design this year as well.
Interior updates for the rear-wheel-drive sedan include new sport seats, white electroluminescent gauges, real maple trim with chrome accents, and a standard navigation system on a 7-inch screen. These join the long list of creature comforts, including heated leather seats, a 10-way power driver's seat with memory settings, an 8-way power passenger seat, a trip computer, a sunroof, remote start, garage opener, intermittent wipers, voice-actived controls for the the automatic climate control, 6-CD changer, and navigation system, wheel-mounted audio and cruise control (intelligent cruise control that maintains a fixed distance from other cars is optional), and heated mirrors. The 2005 Q45 STD seats five in two rows, with so-so rear legroom topping out at around 37 inches, and a small 14-cubic-foot trunk. Options add heated and cooled front seats, satellite radio, rear audio controls, and larger 18-inch chrome wheels. Drivers praise the interior comfort, new sport seats, and all the bells and whistles, with the only major complaints pointing out the confusing navigation system.
