Must Buy For Cheap And Reliable, But Somewhat Fun And Powerful Transportation! — Performance: Slow from take-off, high power past 4K rpms, surprising amount of torque Build Quality: Amazingly well built. Not a single issue yet. Only squeaks were from bad brake pads. Car is built like a rock. No repairs have been needed in 5 years! Just general maintenance like any other car. Exterior is alright, kinda normal and average, seen everywhere. Interior is low-end but comfortable. Has all the necessities, which is acceptable.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Economical

Cons: None

This Car Is Absolutely Sensational. —

A few years back, I got the opportunity to test drive a customer (!) owned 2005 Honda Civic Type-R car from a Honda dealership. Type R's were so wanted that none of the dealers in Belgium had one for demo purposes, not even the importer. On the test drive day, rain was pouring of course. The dealer drove me around for a few minutes before handing me over the steering wheel. The Civic drives like a fast GTI in the lower rev range with a particularly well balanced chassis and roadholding. You feel instantly at ease in this car. I never quite understood the essence of the VTEC although I read lots about it. But boy is it good. This car feels like it comes with two engines. Somewhere around 4500rpm where a normal engine prepares for its last breath, this thing is not even awake. When it eventually does, the character is so wild and brutal that I was instantly hooked. The Type R is built in superlight spec. Aircon is not available because it would make the car heavier. It is only available as a dealer accessory. The racy interior is well built and has a nice touch. The comfort is very good for this kind of car with the Recaro seats. Braking is up to level with the cars 200hp and excellent handling. The only drawback in this soaked weather was the grip of the Bridgestone Potenza's when the VTEC kicks in. It sure could do with a sensitive right foot. There is no doubt that this is one of the most fun cars I have ever driven. I generally dislike front wheel drive cars, but this one made me reconsider my fundamental judgement.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: ENGINE!

Cons: Front wheel drive

Later. — Awesome car when bought, awesome car to this day. The new model is nowhere near as sharp and involving to drive. A fantastic second-hand buy if you can find a decent one and very reasonable running costs. Very highly recommended!

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Handling, sharp gearbox, Recaro seats, V-Tec can scream all the way to 9,000 rpm!

Cons: Nothing, but I am biased! :-)

It's A Honda — Nothing bad to say maybe only that quality of paint seems to have changed for the worse between my current Civic and my previous Civic. Other than that it has been flawless. Well built (maybe a tiny rattle here and there which is understandable as it was not made in Japan), everything just works. It is so maintenance free that i had to flush out a rat that found its little peace of heaven in the engine compartment. Performs well, VTEC still does its magic.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: works as advertised

Cons: paint is easily scratched

Civic Review — fast, fun, reliable, japanese build quality, cheap parts, not good on fuel, not cheep to tax or insure or run. but worth it when the rev limiter zips round to nearly 9k rpm. thats it basically just cheap fast fun

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: speed, handling, engine sound

Cons: it hurts your back after 1 hour

Great Buy For Anyone Who Drive A Lot. — I drive a lot for work, and the civic has been great. It is the perfect combination of economy and sport. It handles really well on curvey roads and has great pick up. It also is spacious enough for two adults and two kids in car seats.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Fun to drive and great gas mileage.

Cons: none
