Awesome Z71 — I love my truck, it is large enough to do the work I need to do on the farm but without the horrible gas mileage. Good performance for the newly designed Inline 5 but not as much power as a V-8, of course. Nice looking truck that I love to drive!!!!!!!!

Pros: the color and spray in bedliner

Cons: back seats are too small and uncomfortable

My Dad's Chevy That I Drive — Overall, I like it. It's not going to fall apart on you, it has an average acceleration, pretty good braking, below average handling, standard issue horsepower (?) is sufficient. Good for trips w/ passengers b/c of extended cab. Comfortable. Bed is not compromised that much by cab.

Pros: Fairly economic for a pickup, never have had a mechanical problem

Cons: Doesn't handle all that well, especially in 4WD

I <3 My Truck — 5 cylinder packs alot of power for such a small engine.. 220 horses, it'll get up and go. Typical GM brake pad squeaking, but that's easily fixed.

Good Truck, Could Use More Power And Less Computer Intervention — 3.5L I-5 engine. 4L60-e transmission. 220 hp. Magnaflow Exhaust. Good in 4WD. Over one horsepower pre cubic inch. Eaton G80 Mechanical locker.

Pros: Looks pretty good. Goes pretty good for a heavy truck. Unique engine. Fun in the rain.

Cons: Can be sluggish. Has a wierd fuel issue.

Most Appealing Sport Truck Chevy Made! — Sadly, I don't have my truck anymore - but I loved him!! I ordered him special from Chevy and waited impatiently FOUR MONTHS for his arrival! He was beautiful, fun to drive, and turned a LOT of heads - but he wasn't long for this world. Not my world, anyway. From January 2005 until April 2006, he'd been in the shop about 7 to 10 times (I lost count!) and I'd actually only physically drove him for 6 months. When I placed my order with Chevrolet, I ordered a sunroof. Unfortunately, they dropped the ball, BIG TIME, and didn't include drains for the water to go somewhere when it rained. The result was a leaky sunroof and an eventual lemon law buy-back from Chevy. I do stand behind my love for this truck, and am replacing it with the new V8 version in 2009/2010.

Pros: Sporty ZQ8 suspension, 220 horse power, BEAUTIFUL styling, fun to drive, good gas mileage!

Cons: Leaking sunroof and annoying squeak.

Decent For Commuting And Errand-runner Tasks — This vehicle is growing on me. I was never particularly fond of the styling, as it didn't really look like the other GM trucks. Since it is an Isuzu design, that is understandable. The I5 engine is adequate for around town, but is under-powered for the interstate, especially with the automatic transmission. Gas mileage is not much better than the 1997 1/2 ton I had with the 5.7L EFI engine. Probably because the transmission has to shift so much to keep it in the powerband. Ride is acceptable for a truck. I like the Z71 package, even with the 2WD. Forget hauling building materials, since the bed is only 5 ft long in the 4 door version. It will pull a small trailer, but won't do it on the interstate very well. This truck would be great with a 4.3 V6 or similar.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Good for short trips around town, small loads at the garden center.  Having 4 doors enables more convenience for passengers.
Ride

Cons: This model is underpowered for most interstate travel unless it is flat ground.  Transmission downshifts for the least little incline.
Trailer pulling, plan on leaving it in 3rd gear and holding the speed down.
The bed is too small for most building materials.  Bagged goods at the lawn & garden center will do just fine.  It is too short even to sleep in unless the tailgate is left down.
Visibility out the back is not good due to the long roof and tailgate.
Large / long cargo handling.

The ergonomics and reliability of this truck has been the best of ANY vehicle I have ever owned. To include several 2000 S-10s, 2000 Silverados, a 4-runner, a 2006 Frontier, 1995 Suburban, etc.(several more). This crew cab is the perfect vehicle for a family of four looking to get out on weekends for fun and to perform pretty sizable truck duties. The payload capacity is on par with a lot of 1/2 ton pickups and the bed is highly adaptable if you take the time to read up/learn about it. The 4cyl with 3.73 rear end and auto transmission gets way better fuel economy than my 06 Frontier with the 4cyl and manual transmission did. The Colorado has higher payload capacity but slightly lower max towing(basically same). Both trucks pull their max weight pretty darn good though. The Frontier had a better empty ride quality. The Colorado ride quality and even cornering get better with a load in the rear for some reason. With 800lbs in the back the bed just starts to settle/level out and the whole ride smooths out and glides. I have 216,000 mi on my truck right now. I drive 100 mi a day. NEVER thought about leaving me stranded (but I perform preventative maintenance). I am about to tow 3,000lbs across country in a few months. I expect to get there. The transmission is the same 3L60E transmission that was in my 5.3L V8 Silverado. So behind this much smaller engine in a much lighter truck. It should last a very long time. I expect to see some of these trucks with 1 to 2 million miles on them some day with proud owners. This truck has been incredibly easy to work on. The timing chain I am about to change out (finally) looks like it will be a pain though. Great truck I hope to give to one of my little ones some day. Also, take a look at the sticker in the glove box. If you see G80 that means you have the Eaton auto locking differential(makes a 2wd better than an open diff. 4WD in certain circumstances). The GT4 means 3.73 rear end. GT5 means 4.11... and I dont remember the code for the 3.42. The 3.42 can only tow 1,500lbs with the 4cyl. Get the 3.73 or higher.

Handling Ranked 2006 Nissan Frontier SE King Cab SB with manual better.
"The max payload is less on the Frontier compared to the Colorado. So it is not meant for work/gets a better empty ride quality. Should be fine for most things that will fit into the bed though. Just not super loads. "
Looks/Style Ranked 2006 Nissan Frontier SE King Cab SB with manual worse.
"The lower bed height makes for easier work. The crew cab is usable with kids/etc. At first I liked the Frontier better but the Colorado has grown on me by being so much more awesome in so many ways where it really counts. "
