2004 Volvo S40 Trims and Specs

The 2.4i is the base trim for the second generation S40, replacing the 1.9T midway through 2004. The 2.4i comes equipped with full power accessories, air conditioning, an interior air filter, cruise control, heated power mirrors, an anti-theft system, remote keyless entry and a CD player. Traction control is a new standard safety feature, and a five-speed manual is now included.

The S40 1.9T entered its final year of production in 2004. It was replaced midway through the year by the new 2.4i. Standard features include automatic climate control, an interior air filter, cruise control, cloth and vinyl upholstery, heated power mirrors, full power accessories, keyless entry and CD player. This base model comes equipped with a myriad of safety features, like front airbags, front side airbags, side-curtain airbags, active head restraints, ABS and daytime running lights.

The T5 adds a turbocharger to the 2.4 liter inline five boosting horsepower from 168 to 218. Additional features at this trim level include automatic climate control, an eight-way power driver's seat, aluminum interior accents, steering wheel-mounted audio controls and a trip computer. The T5 features an AWD option and a six-speed manual transmission-both firsts for the S40. The all-wheel drive package also includes a sport-tuned suspension, but it was not available until the 2005 model's release.

The LSE trim is a new addition to the S40 lineup, but it was only available in 2004. The LSE is intended as a more upscale offering, and packages many of the 1.9T's options as standard features. Upgrades for this trim includes leather upholstery, an eight-way power driver seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power sunroof and a trip computer. The LSE's exterior is differentiated by fog lamps and 16-inch alloy wheels.
