An All Weather Beast......that Needs Pampering....from Time To Time — Of the 3 SUV'S I've owned ( 88 mits montero 2dr & 98 merc mountaineer) ...this one wins hands down....a smooth riding ,powerful, sure footed beast in any weather...with automatic everything.(brakes, pedals, lights ,seats)..gps....not bad for an 04.....if I didn't still have a factory warranty ...I wouldn't have been able to afford to keep it

Pros: body style( last year of the rounded body),gr8 seats (heated but not cooling ).
deceptively quick, powerful, sure footed handling in any weather

Cons: gas mileage, long term mechanical reliability

Great Car — I have owned 2 Jeep Grand Cherokees and they have been great cars. They are fun to drive and very reliable. They utilize the legendary Jeep straight 6 engine which is bullet proof. No regrets with the care at all.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Great looking car, reliable and fun to drive

Cons: Too small for my growing family.  The kids and all the gear that goes with them!

Dependable 4x4 — Great handling, small turn radius so can turn fast and quick. Brake work great, 4 wheel drive works great, can crawl out of any off road situation. Has a in-line 6 which has more torque, just a little different running than a standard v-6. Very dependable.

Pros: Turns on a dime, 4wd will get you out of most jambs.

Cons: Body rust

Great Mid-size 4wd Executive Work Vehicle. — The classic lines and of the 2004 Grand Cherokee were not as strong in future years. Cleans up easily and shows off great. Every time it is detailed, people think I have a much newer vehicle. Great power seats, leather has held up very well and comfortable. Sound system is great. luggage racks are practical and useful. Excellent replacement for a truck. Window tint keeps out Florida heat. Repairs have been minimal. Had bumpers re-painted and made a great upgrade to overall look.

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

Pros: 9 year old SUV and still cleans up like new, even though used in construction and hauling materials on a limited basis. Popular silver/charcoal color. Never got stuck, even in mud.

Cons: Fuel mileage not real good, even with V6 (15/19 MPG), but offset with towing and cargo capability, plenty of power and 4WD.

Fun, Safe, Great Fun In The Snow & Even Park On Snow Banks — not so impressed of late: In the last 5 months I have had to rebuild the transmission, change the oil pan due to off-roading on a construction site (ok-my bad), the battery has been changed yet I step on the petal in the morning and it says "you wanna what?" , the motor has been replaced for the co-pilot window and now the pilot window needs replacing... quite frankly, what is next? ! " smooth, quiet, luxury drive-as Jeeps go" ---> into the garage...

Pros: impressive interior-always get comments as people go to sit in.

Cons: 19.5 kilometers to the liter... make a hybrid guys!

A Typical Jeep Now W/ Luxury —

Performance is brisk with the V8, but since the car is so heavy is seems burdened at some points. Gas mileage is dismal, but you know what you are getting into when you buy a car like that. In my 16 months of ownership, both rear axles have leaked. I have gotten on fixed and will soon get the other fixed. If you do not have a warranty, this will cost you around $500 at any Jeep certified dealer. I absolutely love the curved yet sculpted lines of the Grand Cherokee. The clean halogen headlights are great. The chrome is a nice accent to the car without overdoing it. The 4wd capability is wonderful. I have the Quadra-Drive system and it makes driving in snow, fun. This car exudes luxury from the carpets to the dash. The materials used on the interior are right on in all the right places. However, some cheap plastic bits still give the Grand Cherokee that old school rugedness that so many people like. This car certainly has upsides and downsides. However, one thing does put it above so many other SUVs. That is...the Jeep badge. People can almost tell what kind of person you are by the car that you drive. Driving a Jeep says that you are concerned about utility, comfort (if you drive a Grand Cherokee) and that you enjoy the power you find under the hood of the car. It says that you don't take yourself too seriously. It shows that with you, "what you see is what you get."

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Looks, 4wd, luxury, V8 power, radio (10 disc changer, sirius satellite)

Cons: heavy, gas mileage, top heavy (what SUV isn't)

Very reliable in heavy snow and all weather. Still see alot of this model from 1998-2005 in Upstate NY. The only thing that kills the exterior is the road salt. The I6 engine just doesnt quit. Both of my 2004s did have drive shaft problem starting at 150,000mi. But they were easy to replace. Roadsalt also kills the mufflers and the O2 sensor goes off alot.

Loved my limited, just bought another one, but this time a 2000 with only 116,000miles on it. This will be my 3rd Jeep Grand Cherokee. For our weather here in Upstate NY (Adirondack/Saratoga region) this model gets me to work safely everyday, in all kinds of weather. Alot are still on the road.

JL_Oake says:
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is just better! It is just as capable off road as it's Wrangler counterpart with the Selec-Trac Part-Time 4 wheel drive and serious suspension off road, and is more classy then the other 2. I love all Jeeps, but I must say, the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee has to be one of my tops picks! "No road, no problem"
