2003 Volkswagen Jetta GLS TDi SedanReview

It Is To Tdi For.. — I had the opportunity to drive this vehicle from Johannesburg down to Cape Town, and back in December 2006. We had a fully loaded boot, with a trailer. The nice part is, that this TDI might only have about 80KW of power, but the amount of torque is upped, due to the diesel engine. It easily cruises in the drive gear, and passing traffic only requires planting of the right foot. I also love the interior styling, and attention to detail. All in all, a nice car. Pros: Bieng a diesel it can easily travel 900km on a tank. Cons: Service intervals at each 15000Km is a bit annoying. ![]() Looking for a Used Jetta in your area?CarGurus has 10,131 nationwide Jetta listings starting at $1,900. |

This Si A Very Nice Car! — I had an 02 Golf 2 Dr TDI, this car i miss because of the versatility of the wagon. The Jetta has better acceleration and about the same economy. Pros: Fuel mileage is great, Great looking car, great for 2 people on long trips, with luggage Cons: Expensive services, 0 leg room for rear passengers honda civic has more leg room in the back than this car. |

German Engineering Might Not Be All That It's Cracked Up To Be — I bought my little Jetta in April 2006 when gas hit $3/gal and I decided that it was time to get rid of my 12-17 MPG truck. The car was very good at first, but has deteriorated over the last 2 years. It goes very fast and still gets 25-28 MPG in the city even the way I drive it. The interior is nice and there are plenty of nice extra features. However, the interior has several annoying rattles and noises. Since I got it, I have had to replace the thermostat, water pump, and catalytic converter, luckily most of which was covered under warranty. Now I am still getting a P2181 OBDII trouble code every other day or so, coding back to cooling system performance. The car is running fine, but the check engine light coming on all of the time and having the reset it is annoying. Pros: Performance, interior features, finishing touches, great gas mileage. Cons: Interior panel noises, soft touch finish coming off, cooling system sensor issues. |

More Trouble Than It Is Wroth — My car has been ntohing but trouble since I purchased it in Nov. 2002. If I had known about the Lemon Law I would have used it. Service department(s) can't figure out the following: why it's burning a quart or more of oil every 500 miles, nor can they fix the terrible smell the car comes from the vents when it is running. The sunroof leaks so much that on more than three occasions there has been enough water on the driver's side to cover my shoes. I was told to buy or rent an air pressure hose to clean out the tubes leading from the sunroof from time to time! The manual does not mention this procedure as part of the maintenance I should be doing periodically. The engine light comes on frequently and this seems to be another problem the service department can't quite figure out. Jetta...........I will never buy another VW car. Owner for 4 years, 6 months Miles Driven per Year:10,000 Pros: I liked the leather seats and the way the car handles Cons: sunroof leaks, burns oil constantly and there is a horrible smell at alll times |

Love My Car! — I love everything about my car... Its been 4 years already with my car and so far only thing is that after 3 years I have to let it heat up the first time I turn it on every day or it will not have all of its power... besides that its the best car I've had so far... I Really Enjoy My 03 Jetta 1.8t. It Is A Good Looking Car, With The Speed To Match. — The 03 jetta 1.8t is a great car. I really enjoy it. It has all of the features that I was looking for, as well as a quick little car. The only thing that im not fully impressed with is the Kickstick feature. It has been shifting on its own, but im sure that as soon as I can get it under control, it will not be an isue. Owner for 0 years, 3 months Miles Driven per Year:13,000 |

Worth It — Not particularly peppy, but at 50 mpg sins are forgiven. Though it is kinda slow it still is quite entertaining to drive, especially on the manual version. There are a few quirky things that rattle, such as the shifter, and the release button for the parking brake, but it's really not bad. Primary Use: Family transportation
Pros:
Fuel Economy Cons: Air intake, get's coked up from the EGR |

Great Car... Many Ups And Not Too Many Downs — When i first got this car the acceleration wasn't too bad but after i did some mods to it. The car has good build quality and handles great in the corners. Overall this is a great car and I would have it over many others. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) Pros: Feels like your driving a 2 door sports car Cons: 3000rpm in 5th gear going 60mph |

Leukemia Frog — There is a CAI, 14 lb flywheel and a little bit of graphics....until I figure out what I wanna put on it. The accents are lime green, purple, orange and of course frogs. I added the orange because my step-dad passed away from Leukemia. Braking and handling are awesome even in snow. Acceleration is TURBO...lol ran 16.0 in 1/4 mile drag strip at 85 mph, STOCK Primary Use: Family transportation Pros: Awesome traction, awesome car Cons: n/a |
