Affordable Luxury Travel — Cant fault this really, bit of a gas guzzler but a real head turner with the subtle bits of crome and super throaty engine.

    Pros: Poser!

Cons: Less than 20mpg with the throaty 4.8 liter engine.

Great To Drive But Expensive To Maintain — My dad's other car. It's a great car but with petrol prices at the moment, it's not good on your pocket.

Pros: Good handling and acceleration.  Lots of space.

    Cons: High fuel consumption

There's Only One...jeep — Just purchased my second Jeep GC. Love it so much. Hate the gas milage though. This Overland V8 is hitting me in my pocket much worse than my GC Laredo V6 does. Overall Jeeps will run FOREVER as long as you do your regular maintance on them.

    Good —

Car is reliable but may have minor or major damage mechanically with time and wear my car has around 110,000 miles some problems include the radiator fan relay, radiator expanding, cruise control not working, brake vacuum, delayed shifting and no a working A/C in dash vents. There is very little feel in the steering and suspension does not take mid sized bumps well. Some things that are good is the front seat comfort and the power seats, the engine will not fail mo matter what you throw at it, the gas mileage in the I6 engine is decent I average around 18 MPG which is good compared to my other car which averages 12 MPG, you can tow around 3,500 lbs with the 6 cylinder and can haul a lot inside with the back seats down, they fold down to make a flat floor, the frame and body are very sturdy it has been in several hail storms and accidents with its previous owner, good price would be around 6 thousand for a very good condition car or 3 to 4.5 thousand dollars for a decent running vehicle, the interior is overall good very few knobs on the dash, but it is comfortable roomy and not to plasticy.

    Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Comfortable to drive, very easy to do repairs alone, interior

Cons: Radiator fan relay, handling, simple dash

I was a member of an off-road club and was tempted by a lot of the Grand Cherokees design features and off-road capabilities. But most people spend most (or all) of their time driving on pavement, and the Cherokee is much less safe (high center of gravity, rollovers, accident avoidance) than the Forester and uses a lot more gas. Finally, my friends Cherokee required $7000 in repairs in one year (trans, 4-WD system, AC etc). She sold it and got an Xterra (good off-roader too but reliable).

Power Ranked 2003 Subaru Forester worse.
    "More horsepower :-)"
Handling Ranked 2003 Subaru Forester better.
"Much lower center of gravity leads to less likely-hood of roll-overs in accidents, sharper steering for easier avoidance of accidents and more fun on the canyon roads, easier to see out of etc etc"
Looks/Style Ranked 2003 Subaru Forester worse.
"Its all personal choice - I just like the way the Grand Cherokee looks a little better than the Forester (which I like too)."
Front Seats Ranked 2003 Subaru Forester better.
"Mainly that you can see out of them better over the hood - important when off-roading in avoiding large rocks or washouts on narrow mountain trails etc."
Back Seats Ranked 2003 Subaru Forester worse.
    "More room."
Cargo Capacity Ranked 2003 Subaru Forester better.
"Low loading floor, lots of room with the back seats folded down - dont know how much capacity the Cherokee has from experience."
Family Car Ranked 2003 Subaru Forester better.
"Depends somewhat on circumstances - I drive most of the time alone, so I dont need the room of the Cherokee and like that its a more fun car to drive, cheaper, safer, etc. If I regularly carried 3 or more people, then the extra room of the Cherokee might be better for passengers."
Value Ranked 2003 Subaru Forester better.
"More capable on pavement (see handling comments), vastly cheaper to maintain, lasts more or less forever, much better on gas mileage, etc."
Would Buy Ranked 2003 Subaru Forester better.
"To me a more fun car and way cheaper to drive, maintain, repair etc - and a safer vehicle because of the much lower center of gravity. Excellent engineering and from my experience they last more or less forever."
