Dependable Little City Car. Ideal First Car — I was never a fan of the Lupo until i got one for myself and i quickly fell for it's charms after driving it for a while. I got my 2002, silver, 1.0 base model Lupo about a year and a half ago for £1300 with only 52000 miles on it. I have driven 41000 miles since then and very little has gone wrong with it. A tiny hole corroded through the pipe for the power steering fluid but because it's a pressurized system the whole thing had to be replaced. The only other real problem i had was the clutch cable wore out but it was a cheap and quite easy fix. The car is extremely easy to park in town because it is so small, the back is completely flat and the big round headlights make it easy to see the end of the bonnet too. The car has good visibility all round and the blind spot isn't very big. Despite being so small it definitely doesn't feel it on the inside. I am 6ft 3 and i actually have more room in my Lupo than i did in my old Vauxhall Corsa. The looks of the Lupo grow on you with time. Lupos definitely have more personality than most cars on the road and you will end up loving it's mad looking face and because they are not a very common car other Lupo drivers will wave to you as you pass them on the road. The 1.0 engine is great about town and gets good fuel economy. On the motorway it can cruse at 60mph at 3000rpm but anything more than that and the engine screams for a higher gear so not ideal for long distance journeys. If you are going to be doing more motorway miles get a 1.4. In a car so light it will give you all the power you could possibly need. The boot is pathetically small as you can probably guess. Only enough room for 3 or 4 bags of shopping but i normally put everything in the back seats and if needs be, the back seats can fold completely flat giving you a lot more space which has come in handy a few times. I would try to avoid light coloured upholstery if at all possible. My seats were spotless when i got the car but after 2 months they were absolutely covered in stubborn stains. I eventually gave up trying to clean them and bought seat covers which kind of ruined the interior ambiance. Overall the Lupo is a fantastic little car. Very dependable, easy and fun to drive making it an ideal first car and if i found a 1.4 Lupo in good condition i would buy it in a second!

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Very reliable, Extremely easy to park, Plenty of room inside. Even for tall drivers, Good fuel economy, Uncommon, Mad looks

Cons: 1.0 engine struggles to more than 60mph comfortably, Boot is tiny, light coloured upholstery is very hard to keep clean

Econobox! — Super economical, handy little car with well thought out finishing touches.

Pros: Nice pop out CUP HOLDERS that adjust! Nice little flap in between the two sun visors for that irritating bit where the sun comes through, 1.7 SDI is super economical and pretty fast, everything in it is manual so it cant go wrong!! The seats fold (unlike the stupid Beamer), handy slots for ipod or phone, the map holders actually fit a map (unlike the Beamer) and sexy upholstery

Cons: The brakes are a bit rubbish and it looks a little boxy from the back

Fun Little Shoebox — , Ok in standard form these really SUCK.. apart from being a good, solid little daily runner. But they are fun once you start to modify them. This one was on coilovers which meant it was so low to be almost impratical. But made the little fella look much better

Pros: Solid VW build, reasonably rare in modified form

Cons: too slow and impratical at times..
