Cool Little Car. — i took the 5spd manual version of the car for a spin and just loved it! the shifting was very smooth especially wen accerlerating hard. the turbo was also very responsive and gave the car great get up and go. there was lots of room for the driver and the passengers and had sum pretty cool features like being able to roll the windows up or down with the turn of the key in the door lock. the steering was telescopic so it made it very comfortable for me the driver to keep a good pasture while driving. these r my favorite model of the jetta to b produced. id liek to see the jettas with a VR6 tho...

Pros: the turbo deisel is very fuel efficient. the turbo and 5 spd gives the car an excellent 'sporty' advantage.

Cons: only a 4 cyl...thats about all i can think of.

Reliable, Tough And Roomy — This is an amazing little car. Great reliable german built 1.9 litre turbo diesel injection. SAVE on gas! I get up to 1000 km per tank - easy. 5 speed manual transmission makes it fun to drive as it accelerates quite quickly. Never drove a car which handled so nicely. VERY STURDY. 1 accident - person ran into the front of this car with thier vehicle, hardly made a dent. Equipped with leather interior, heated seats, power sunroof, audio controls on stearing column, heated mirrors, side airbags... sooo many options included in the GLS model. I'd say a great little taste of luxury for your price.

    Pros: Very roomy trunk
Great one or two person car
    Very reliable
    Looks great
Rides smooth, hugs the road on turns.
Feel very safe riding in this car.

Cons: High maintenance, the money you save on gas will likely go into the high cost of repairs. Needs timing belt changed every 130k, needs to be decarbonized(TDI).
Both driver and passenger windows fell through the door due to cheap plastic holdings in the window, cost me $350 to fix...but no more problems.
Makes the most out of a 4 door sedan, but there is limited space inside the car.

Defective Design Jetta, Difficult Front Clearance — addendum. brakes on this car really superior. one nagging problem- the front air dam, just below the grille, nothing but trouble. drags on the common pkg-lot dividers (those cement jobs, ca 5' long they move around) any obstacle more than a few inches ht. tears the whole works loose-sound damper in the wheel well, attachment to the inside fender edge. this prob ,may have been corrected in later Jettas, but man, is it ever a nuisance!!!

Bought Used, Best Car We Ever Owned, But Ex. Dealer Support Was Part Of It, Dealer Now Changed Hands — this has been a wonderful car--built in Wolfsburg which is probably why. ex. pwr (old couple) good economy, needs to be roomier espec for rear seat passengers.

Pros: handling, comfort, quiet, ex. mechanically so far. elec. system--not so sure.

Cons: more room, espec in back seat.

12 Years Old And I Love It! Great First Car — I purchased this car 12 years old with only 86,500 miles on it from a local dealership for $3,000. The AC was out ($53 control panel fixed it) and the ignition switch needed replacing ($50). My check engine light came on the first day I had it, from an o2 and knock sensor code, and that's when I discovered you cant use regular gas in these. They require premium to run properly. My fault for not checking. Since then, it's been downhill. I'm on my third alternator, both downstream and upstream O2's replaced, knock sensor, a dash sensor, the inside is very cheaply made. No cup holders? Dont get me wrong, I love the car. It gets great gas mileage for being twelve years old - I average 25mpg. It's also extremely cute. The electricity works perfect, interior wise it's in good shape with no cracks in the dash or leather. The original radio is still working well with nice sounding speakers. I've simply put a lot into maintenance already. Aesthetic issues include the fabric on the roof coming off at the edges, the center console is broken, and there is some minor paint chipping on the hood. The passenger and rear doors are odd, and require that you push them in before opening them. They do work, though. The trunk is very spacious and that's extremely nice, since the inside of the car is built small. Overall, I would recommend this car to someone looking for a fun, cute daily drive that will take care of them as long as they take care of it.

    Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Reliable, fuel economy, great engine, comfortable, aesthetically pleasing

Cons: AC control panel and ignition switch went out before 100k, some cheap parts (center console broke, some issues with door handles)

Black Jetta 1.8 Turbo — I like the look of the car and it was comfortable in the front but the back doesnt have a lot of leg room for an adult. It doesnt fit more than 5 people and the 5th one is pushing it. The build quality is great, it handles very well and is really awesome on gas. I felt very safe driving it

    Primary Use: Commuting to work

    Pros: Fast, reliable

Cons: Being that its a German car with turbo, it requires an oil change more frequently than the 3000 mark

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

    Pros: Amazing on gas! : 900km = 1 tank

    Cons: turbo problems
