Sucked — oil problems, in the shop every 2 weeks for a 500 dollar repair, seats could not be kept looking good, lint collected so easily, it basically sucked. But I loved the way it looked on the outside, ughhhh wish i still had it. By the way, 2002's were duds, every other year should be fine.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Outside appearance only

Cons: oil, engine

Almost Perfect 1st Car For Son Or Daughter, Good Safety Ratings — Performance: Great Acceleration with the 1.8 liter turbo engine, braking is average and handiling is average. Build Quality: Requires ALOT of repairs Appearance: Average appearance, not too sporty, just right amount of look to it. Cost of Ownership: Gas is very expensive for my model since its a turbo engine it takes Premium gas. Fun Factor: With the added speed, yes it is fun to drive.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Fast, its compact, has average gas mileage

Cons: Parts are very hard to come by for it, and if you do if you do find them, they are VERY expensive.

Overall A Good Car With Some Hiccups Along The Way. — My Jetta is an attractive, fun car loaded with features...moonroof, Monsoon stereo, heated seats, hatchback. I really like driving it. However, these Jettas are known for having many problems under the hood [due to Volkswagen trying to save some pennies], mostly in the wiring and engine areas. The coil packs are the most known problem. But once you get these things fixed, it's pretty much good to go.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: It's a fun car to drive, and it gives you lots of high end options on a mid-range car.

Cons: Many known problems under the hood, especially with the coil packs.

Would Buy Another Vw — awesome mileage, comfortable, awsome soundsystem, good overall car, great commuter, heated seats, everything power, stick shift, can go alot of km, already well over 200,000 km, paint job sucks, oil change is a pain in the ass, overall a great car

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: fuel economy

Cons: electrical problems, oil changes are expensive

Drivers Car. — Suspension is bad, but fixed with aftermarket shocks and springs. Power is good but for 500-1000 can bump up 40 hp with a chip. Never been stuck in the winter, and still on stock brakes/clutch after several drag, track and autoXs.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Genre defining model, top of the line interior.

Cons: Minor issues

Volkswagen Mark 4 Jetta 1.8t Is The Right Car For All —

this is the first car i have ever bought. it was a car i have loved since the 1st Fast and the Furious movie came out (it didnt get my liking the mark 4 Jetta it just got me liking the Jetta's in general). The Performance this car is killer for performance. it has a 1.8 liter engine equipped with a stock Turbo Charger. it can smoke the majority of cars that are stock or have light performance upgrades. this car came from the factory with the optional bigger brake package and let me tell you, you can tell. it can stop quicker than any other car in its price range. The Build Quality this car still looks like new inside and out. i do keep it clean and well maintained (spring and fall tune ups). i dont hear any bad noise when i drive and and am constantly listening in case i do. Appearance the appearance is nice, it doesnt look like anything fast but it is. i is German so i doesnt have any outrageous styling to it; like most other German cars it is made to be a car and thats what it does. the car doesnt look like anything out of the ordinary and that is a good thing because if your like me and you bought one in silver or any other colour that is not Red the cops wont take a second look at it. this has come in handy before. the only thing i would change are the rims. i have the stock 17" GLS rims and i dont like them all that much. i am going to buy some aftermarket BBS rims for it soon. Cost of Ownership this car is alot of bang for the buck. the one i bought though had a problem with the clutch because it had cracked all the way through in 4 places (very rare and my mechanic has never seen or heard of it happening before in his life). this is not a problem with the car it is just the one that i bought had the clutch ridden harder than i though possible by the previous owner, but this is my cross to bear, back to the car in general. now that that is fixed the car run perfectly and have had no problems since. but on to something that everyone cares about or should car about, gas millage. this car is said to get 29 mpg in the city. that is good but i though i could do better. i was able to boost it to 34 mpg in the city. i was able to drive for a month on one tank of gas and i only drove it down to the half way mark; it still had a lot more gas to go. Conclusion this a a great car for anyone who wants a fast car. this could also work for a family if they wanted something fuel efficient for the city and something that go's like heck on the highway. basically anyone who wants a reliable car that is fast and wont attract alot of cop attention should seriously look at getting this car.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: fast, fuel efficent, fun to drive, turbo charged, cops dont notice them, good build quality, does not have to be fixed often (parts last a long time)

Cons: seats are not bolstered enough, the rims are not the best looking (but they can be swithed out)
