Best Car I've Ever Had. — You probably won't understand a VW unless you've actually owned one. The commercials that say "Once you get into a Volkswagen, it gets into you" are spot on. If you've ever owned a modern-day VW, you may understand that. One of the best things about VWs is the way they feel. You get in, and its like everything is right where it's supposed to be, there isn't anything loose, nothing out of place, and everything works together perfectly. That's the best way I know how to describe it. One of the worst things about VWs is that they are a different animal when it comes to working on them. I personally love working on mine, but most mechanics (automotive technicians) won't touch them.

Pros: Feel, performance, handling, looks.

Cons: High-maintenance, not many shops work on VWs.

Excellent. — I've owned my GTI since February of 2005 with 39k. In that time, even under the stress of numerous upgrades, I've only had one "disaster" which was a snapped motor mount, and in turn, bent both half-shafts. The stock clutch started slipping around 60k and was replaced at 75k (due to wanting a relatively expensive clutch and my stock one simply refusing to quit). All in all, it's been a very reliable, and extremely fun vehicle. It has been to Florida, North Carolina, New York, Indiana, and all places in between with no problems. I wouldn't reccomend the vehicle for Autocross, however, due to its severe understeer bias. It's more of a grand touring hatch (if that even exists). With a few thousand in upgrades, it will have no problem keeping up with your STI and EVO driving friends on "Sunday drives".

Pros: Wonderful stock acceleration, easily upgrated via ECU upgrade (GIAC, Unitronic, APR). Relatively inexpensive for upgrades. Lots of parts availability. Great looks, bulletproof motor, surprising fuel economy, amazingly fun to drive.

Cons: Costly tires, brakes, too-soft stock suspension, driveline has a tendency to fail under power upgrades, turbocharged motor requires synthetic oil and 93 octane fuel, less-than-perfect electronics. All in all, it's very expensive, but worth it.

Small Engine With A Lot Of Room To Grow... — if you take care of it and dont abuse it too much, it will last a long time. Great car to have fun with. Lots of mods avalaible for it. Has coolant problems because of the turbocharger sometimes. Great number of vdub enthusiast owners across the country to help you if you need it.

Pros: massive torque for a small 4 cylinder engine

Cons: reliability

German Engineering, Representing Deutschland — This car is fast, fun, and good on gas. I'm not going to lie to you, volkswagen's are terribly unreliable, and bloody expensive. Dealerships/Stealerships are not well known for their great service, and parts are usually expensive. The tools needed to work on the car are also unique, therefore sometimes not found in the average garage. On the other hand, the car is surprisingly spacious, and the interior is very attractive. Its all about whether or not the money you are putting into the car is worth the driving experiance

Pros: Fast, Fun to drive, German, Good gas milage, oh, did I say it was pretty quick?

Cons: unreliable, parts are costly.  People in the backseats better not be tall (2 door)

My Baby!!!! — Had this car almost 6 months, and i love it to death! No problems yet, lots of tuning to come!

Pros: Shes light as a feather, and can really get up and go

Cons: Only a 1.8t, less engine means more money for less speed :(
