Astra Coupe 2.2 — Performance is not too bad but sometimes you feel their should be more from a 2.2. It takes a while to pick up and the kick is quite late in the rev range but once its going the performance starts to win your heart. The handling of this car is pretty good. The appearance of these are ok too and they do look really nice when you get the rite styling parts, as you can see mine is on its way there i think it looks quite cool. The interior needs some work tho, the standard interior is not briilliant but the colour coding is ok just need some leather. Overall i love this car. I had a Civic Type R before but the running costs of it were unbelievable especially if you had a heavy foot. When i brought this astra it wasnt much compared to the Type R but its just grown and grown on me and now im really fond of it. This car is quite fun to drive and the tuning of these like most other vauxhalls is endless. It has been reliable and no major repairs needed.

Pros: It looks and drives great

Cons: Vauxhall electrics are not brilliant

Astra 2002 1.8 Petrol Automatic —

Performance Quick get aways, especially when putting the selector in 3rd and pressing "Sport" button. Handled higher speeds no problem at, extra sound insulation too, so you just never knew how fast your were going until you looked at the speedo. Build quality. Quite good - a heavy car, with heavy doors etc. Interior plastics ok, but not as good as newer model. Appearance. I prefer this shape Astra to the one that came after it. Running costs etc. Astra's dont hold their value, and the petrol 1.8 Auto drinks fuel, especially in slow traffic, around town etc. On the open road, you can get 35-36mpg on a good day which is not so bad, but as I said, around town or in traffic, you can nearly see the needle fall back. The one I had a few problems, but nothing went wrong with the engine or gearbox. I got through front tyres quite quickly also. It was quite a fun car to drive - in the UK, people dont like automatics very much, and most people would not want to drive it for this reason alone. Many were quite shocked at how quick it was - people dont expect Astra's, and especially automatics Astra's to be very quick (it had "lock up" on 1,2, and 3). 3 way interlock safety on the transmission was also a nice touch - again above and beyond what you got with the standard transmission ("manual" / "stick shift") models - much to the confusion of most people in the UK. And the handling had design input from Lotus, so it went round bends quite well also - not a GTI standard, but better than normal. However the ride quality on rough roads did suffer due to this. Anyone looking to buy one in the UK, should understand that while its quick, it does drink fuel, and UK yearly tax on this car was at £210 (Band F) in 2008. Front tyres wear quite quick (expect to pay around £100 for each one - inc fitting in the UK). The "sounder box" for the built in Alarm system is a common failure, as is the pump for the Air Con/Climate control system. Expect to pay £150-£200 fitted for a new sounder box, and £500-£600 for a new pump (fitted). Cambelt must be changed every 40,000 miles or a certain number of years (check handbook), whichever is soonest.

Pros: Quick + responsive, strong engine, strong automatic box, handles quite well, lots of kit on this model.

Cons: Drinks fuel, high tax, falls in value too quickly, some known problems.

My Astra Estate — its big enough for when we go down south to see family, very good economy, not fast but not slow, i lie the shape of the car and had good build quality. the car is very reliable and not let me down, yet. i like the colour of the car cos it is pearl green with a hint of yellow / gold in the sunlight.

Pros: its not a ford

Cons: can't think of any

My First Vauxhall Was An — 1.6 8v LS Automatic Estate. Loads of boot space. Dual headlamps (each side(one bulb for dipped, one for main beam(which gave a pyramid style beam when switched on))). Suspension was a bit hard, but worth it, the ride was smooth, the handling and feedback was positive. Economy wasn't too good, it was more of a plodders car; driving it hard to get moving returned 24 mpg if your lucky. Did have tinted windows which gave it style and made it different from all the other estates at the time.

Pros: Fun to drive

Cons: bad economy giving at most 24 mpg.

Vauxhall Astra 888 Coupe — This was a very limited edition 9only 100 made) of a vauxhall astra coupe, badged 888 after the then racing division. The car had a 2 litre turbo-charged engine and really let you know about it! It had a full body kit and large, effective rear spoiler. It performed like a dream and was a real head-turner. It was only a vauxhall so build wasn't miind-blowing but good enough. It was cheap to run for a car with such performance and was fantastic fun to drive

Pros: Appearance and performance

Cons: Hard ride for the passenger, only 4 inches of front clearance due to spolier.
