2002 Subaru Impreza WRX BaseReview

Overview — Best car I've owned. Reliability for me is a whole new game, as I've modified the hell out of the car. I modify it, I beat on it, it breaks. Such a hobby drains my bank account, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I cant say much about the reliability of a stock WRX, as thats something I've never really experienced over any period of time. For performance, this thing will go like a bat out of hell (loudly), stop on a dime, and turn like its on rails. In the summer, I run fairly wide autocross tires. Its a rough ride, to say the very least. In the winter, I run Blizzacks, and never once have I gotten stuck in the snow. For some people, the interior leaves some to be desired. As far as I'm concerned, it has cruise control, AM/FM radio, and an in-dash 6-disc changer. The back seats aren't exactly built for an adult male, but I dont have to worry about that. As for appearance, the car is uglier than hell, and I dont let anyone tell me otherwise. However, I built the thing to be obnoxious. Big hood scoop, bigger wing, loud horns, loud exhaust, electronic cutout, external wastegate with an open dump tube, and as of recently, a loud transmission. It is all around obnoxious. And lastly, the fun factor. Well, lets just say theres a fair number of people who wont ride in my car. Whether it be a straight line or a twisty back road, the temptation to floor the gas pedal is an undying desire, despite how much I tend to do it. Pros: Fast, fair on gas mileage (~20/28),incredibly fun, reliable (in a relative sense, for me) Cons: Loud, ugly, expensive (again, in my case), tempting, attracts lots of police attention |

Wrx — I love my car. It goes fast and has AWD. Plus, 4 doors which is cool for driving people around. The seats take your body in and hold you there no matter what corners you attempt. I love when you hit the RPM range where the boostu kicks in and the car comes alive. Pros: Quick, grippy, economical Cons: Could get better mileage |

2002 Subaru Impreza Wrx — My car is so fun to drive...best car I have owned. It's a lot faster with the upgraded exhaust, downpipe, blow-off valve, and a bigger top mount innercooler. Won't recommend the car though if you want a lot of room, or good gas mileage. This car standard get 21 MPG on highway and it's a 4 cylinder...but that's the price I pay for having a fun car. Pros: Fast even when stock, but faster with small upgrades. Cons: Bad gas mileage, and it's not an STi! |

My Wrx — I love my Praying Mantis-eyed Subaru - most of the grief it has given me is my own fault (lack of maintenance and TLC). There are lots of quirky things, though, like the random clock failure (who can't make a long lasting digital clock in this day and age?) and the driver's door that is falling apart inside. But, it is very fast and has been relatively trouble free for almost 100,000 miles. Pros: It can be seen from outer space Cons: The cops can see it from outer space |

Suby Wooby Doooooo — When I drive the car it is like poetry in motion. I love everything about it. The pick up, the handling, and the way hugs the road. It is easy to work on, fun to drive, the girlfriend loves it too. Its a great car with both top performance and it still has great mileage. Pros: Almost everything Cons: Not very roomy |

Smurff — Absolutely everything I wanted in a car. I admit, its not the top of the line, but its all i want without paying 3 years salary for a car. The handling and traction are everything. It is a rally car, it goes well on any surface. I've tested it hard on the back mountain roads of main without any complaint. There are better models out now, but this car revolutionized what a sport-compact car could be, sparking a wave of imitators. Pros: Traction, handling, suspension, turbo, acceleration, sound system, leather interior, all surfaces-weather. Cons: Would change transmission |

A Rally Car For The Masses — Between its rally heritage and bulletproof reliability, there's simply no substitute for a Subaru. Especially in wagon trim, the WRX is enough of a sleeper so as not to attract the attention of the 5-0, but once the turbo spools, hang on. Equally at home on the racetrack or on a logging road. Pros: Power, reliability, all-wheel drive Cons: Paint quality, styling |

I Love My Dad's Scooby — Performance- quick and fast with a very stable ride. loads of grip through corners and performs well on any surface including snow and gravel. the build quality is very good. the interior is sporty yet functional great steering feel as well a good bolstered seats to hold you in during cornering. Pros: Fast, comfotable, good price Cons: gas milage, chaning spark plugs is very hard due to the boxer enginge design. |
