Get One. — So far I absolutely love this car. I bought the car stock, it handled and performed wonderfully. It is quick and solid. The maintenance on it is a little more expensive than the average car but well worth it. I have gotten anywhere from 22-29 MPG so far. This summer I have put on a full exhaust and installed UTEC for tuning. I can't wait for the upcoming winter! My next car will be another WRX or an STi if I can afford it.

Pros: Fast, reliable, great gas mileage, handles like a dream.

Cons: If any - cost of ownership.

Still Love My Wrx — I've now owned my 2002 WRX for 8 years. I still love the car. Still a very hot hatchback wagoneven compared to most of the new cars. I finally had to replace the brakes and last year it got a set of tires. There are some paint issues with the fiberglass hood scoop pealing. Other than that it has never needed a single repair. I don't baby it. I drive it hard as I believe it was meant to be driven. Absolutely bulletproof. Cost of ownership is low overall except for fluids. I use high-quality oil for changes and it requires premium gas. I plan to replace it in a year or two with another Subaru. Either the new WRX or STI. I will probably always have a Subaru.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Great traction and handling from the all wheel drive, outstanding acceleration from the turbo-charged boxer motor, unbelievable reliability.

Cons: Requires premium gas. Headlights dulled. Hoodscoop pealing.

Personal preference because of the Boxer 4 engine, handling, reliability, ease of aftermarket upgrades, and AWD.

Power Ranked 2003 Subaru Impreza WRX better.
"They are the same, unless one had an automatic."
Front Seats Ranked 2003 Subaru Impreza WRX better.

As a two time wrx owner, its safe to say I enjoy these vehicles and have had a lot of experience with them. This was my first wrx and it was a wonderful car to use. The punchy 2.0 liter turbo flat 4 is a great little engine, and one that is happy to rev high. Its great in the snow, fun on a dry twisty road, gets acceptable gas milage and has looks that will be remembered quite fondly. The quirky face of my bugeye is one I will never forget.

Power Ranked 2002 Ford Mustang Coupe worse.
"Higher horsepower. More Torque. Simple as that."
Handling Ranked 2002 Ford Mustang Coupe worse.
"Whether it was the subaru all wheel drive, the tires, the nimble chassis, the superior suspension, or just the enthusiastic, lively nature of the WRX, it was a clear performer over the mustang in terms of handling. Especially in the wet and cold weather."
Looks/Style Ranked 2002 Ford Mustang Coupe worse.
"Looks are all opinion, but the WRX is more of a looker to me, and i doubt im the only one."
Front Seats Ranked 2002 Ford Mustang Coupe worse.
"In all honesty, the seats are very similar in these cars in terms of comfort, but the WRX seats have better supportive bolstering."
Back Seats Ranked 2002 Ford Mustang Coupe worse.
"the WRX is a 4 door car, and the mustang is a 2 door that barely has back seats."
Cargo Capacity Ranked 2002 Ford Mustang Coupe worse.
"Its a 4 door car and has a similarly sized trunk. The wagon carries a ton of stuff."
Family Car Ranked 2002 Ford Mustang Coupe worse.
"4 doors, more interior storage, If you get the wagon it has siginicantly better storage capacity."
Value Ranked 2002 Ford Mustang Coupe worse.
"look on craigslist, look at dealerships, a 2002 wrx will hold its value significantly better than a 2002 mustang."
Would Buy Ranked 2002 Ford Mustang Coupe worse.
"I did buy the 2002 wrx over the mustang, and would do so again. The wrx is more than it seems and the mustang only dissapoints. The japanese underdog comes out on top of the skeleton of a car that would have once represented everything great about american cars but had been reduced to little more than a less than practical commuter car. It doesnt even have independent rear suspension."
