1st Car Star — its an excelent first car, reliable and fun to drive, just not a babe magnet... well not until ive modded it a bit... get a good paint job and a sound system and ill be happy with it, maybe some rimms too

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Rover 25 — Not all units were carried over from the "bubble 200" range - the 1.4 litre 84BHP unit is new for the 25, the lower power output being achieved by a restricted throttle body. I'd recommend the 103BHP 1.4 litre option as the best blend of performance and economy. The K Series unit is smooth and rorty, but you need to get it spinning above 4000 RPM to get the best performance out of it. There are 2 diesel power options, the 100BHP and the 115BHP intercooled L Series unit. My car is a 2002 103BHP 1.4 and I've owned it from new. Performance is very good for such a small engine, and the Rover can embarrass many a larger engined rival. The car handles well and will let you know in plenty of time when it's going to let go. The Standard solid 262 non-vented brakes are up to the job, but I fitted the larger 282mm vented setup which are less prone to fade when driving hard or carrting a lot of weight. Build quality is good - nothing has fallen off or broken. It is however very very very important to stick to the letter of the servicing schedule religiously. I'm a Rover trained technician (retired)and in following the schedule religiously, I've encountered no issues. Personally, I think the car looks good, if a little dated. I've had a lot of compliments from strangers! MPG is pretty reasonable, but, like many cars, put your foot down hard and it'll drink like George Best. I have another car (a Porsche Boxster S) and while it's not anything like as quick, the Rover never fails to bring a smile to my face. Put simply, it's a nice place to be.

Pros: Easy to drive, cheap to run, fun, nice looking.

Cons: Now a little dated
