Excellent, Responsive, And Sporty But Yet Economical — this car is very versitile. it has great looks, good response, and a smooth ride. it can get 34mpg and be very economical if driven right. but can also be fast and sporty if driven right. the interior has great comfort and room.

I Wouldn't Recommend This Car To My Worst Enemy... —

I purchased a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am GT in the fall of 2003. It was a GM Certified Used vehicle with 29,000 miles on it. Recently I was able to trade it off for a 2004 Nissan Maxima 3.5SE with more miles and am MUCH happier. Here is my experience: First Year: 4 x New Tires - stock tires were horrible - 35,000 Miles Transmission flushed and replaced seal due to leak - 35,000 Miles Second Year: New Pads and Rotors - factory rotors warped and pads were thin - 45,000 Miles ABS and Traction Control stopped working due to "ABS Malfunction" (the ABS computer and one or two wheel hubs needed replaced)- 50,000 Miles Front Drive Window Regulator Failed - 55,000 Miles One Speaker Stopped Working - 56,000 Miles LEDs in Factory Radio Failed - 60,000 Miles Third Year: Spark-plugs needed replaced early - 65,000 Miles Serpentine Belt Frayed and replaced early - 65,000 Miles Replaced Lower Intake Manifold Gasket - 70,000 Miles (1 of 4 times) Third Battery - 75,000 Miles Alternator Showed Signs of needing replaced - 80,000 Miles Replaced Lower Intake Manifold Gasket - 83,000 Miles (2 of 4) Replaced Lower Intake Manifold Gasket - 86,000 Miles (3 of 4) Replaced Lower Intake Manifold Gasket - 90,000 Miles (4 of 4) At this point I took the car in for a 110 Point GM Inspection, here were the findings: Lower Intake Manifold Gasket Needed Replaced (AGAIN) Alternator Needed Replaced ABS Computer Failed (Additional Diags Needed) Oil Leak (Additional Diags Needed) Radio Needed Replaced Monsoon Speaker Needed Replaced Front Driver's Window Regulator Needed Replaced (AGAIN) Then at 92,000 Miles the Transmission began to act up (wouldn't shift out of 2nd) and I was fed up with this piece of junk and managed to trade in the car and get $4000.00. This didn't even come close to paying off the loan but thankfully a buddy of mine at a Nissan dealer was able to help me out and cut me a nice deal on the 04 Maxima, that even with more miles is a whole lot better car than that Grand Am ever was.

Everyone Should Have This As A Starter Car. — This has been an amazing car for cause it has never let me down yet. It is a all around good car to drive any where you need to go with it. Yes it is a fun car to own cause it has enough power to make anyone happy.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Everything is awesome about this car.

Cons: Nothing sucks about this car.

Not A Bad Car — I like the overall looks. It has many features found in more expensive cars. The engine and drive train are standard GM. Parts availability is good and local shops can make repairs. The GAOwnersClub.com site is active with many owners. They have knowledgeable people and DIY threads with pictures so you can at least see what the solution is. Handy to know when a repair shop is trying to sell unnecessary repairs.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Low initial cost, inexpensive DIY repairs, decent body lines

Cons: Front wheel bearing and speed sensors. One or the other fails every couple of years.
