2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans AmReview

Soooo Much Fun — and at least with my version 188k miles, the reliability was an issue. The alternator went along with the pullies and the belts but in all fairness any car that is 13 years old and with nearly 200k of miles would probably need the same repairs. Pros: Soooo much power but it is exactly the kind of blast to drive that you would expect it to be Cons: Its bad on gas, and the handling is not great but lets be fair, that is not what this car was designed for. ![]() Looking for a Used Firebird in your area?CarGurus has 468 nationwide Firebird listings starting at $5,436. |

Great To Look At And Fun To Drive — I love the look of the car. Its a very classy look and makes a really good noise even for a V6. Although its a V6 it still eats the gas but thats not a huge deal. There are some manufacturing issues that you may run into but nothing that isnt an easy fix althoug easy does not mean cheap in some cases. Easy to work on and most replacement parts are cheap since they were so common. Overall a good car that is fun and is really fun to drive in the summer with the t-tops off. Pros: Great looking car and a great alternative to the V8 model. If you want some go with slightly better MPG than this is your car. Its great fun to drive. Its only on 220HP max but the fact that its a RWD car gives it that lil something extra that is such a rush. For a V6 it sounds really nice too. Cons: As they are an older car, its has its defects. The motor is older so it takes a lil TLC. Some of them had some issue with the weather stripping around the back glass/t-tops which causes the paint to bubble and chip off around those areas on the roof. Also there really isnt a back seat to speak of. The front seat isnt great for taller peolple but thats common among alot of sports cars of that era. The MPG isnt great but again, with sports cars of that era, thats not surprising and is to be expected. |

Sexy And Mean Looking. — The 2002 Trans Am Firebird is the last of a great American pastime, the muscle car. The 2002 models has power, luxery, looks and decent fuel mileage. I use the car for my daily commute, my weekends and driving it to the store is exciting. I could not be more pleased. I have upgraded the exhaust and the program, and although mine is an automatic, it will get after it! Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: Wonderful car. Gotten plenty of comments and looks, the car sounds great, will burn up the road and drives strong. All American muscle car...Mine is a deep blue with stock aluminum wheels, it is a beauty... Cons: Driver side power window motor drags. |

Great Car For What I Use It For... — Nice car...Looks good but just needs some low end torque...Hoping someday I'll be able to drop an LSX in it and build it a bit...Gets lots of looks and haven't had many problems with it...First F-body I've had that stays at operating temp by itself... Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: Looks Good...Good MPG... Cons: V6... |

Its Awesome! — its a very good car, it has a pretty good build quality, the performance is surprisingly very good for a 6 cylinder, and cool thing is is that its pretty cheap to own and the gas milage is nothing to complain about... 24mpg Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: its a blast Cons: very low to the ground |

Firebirds Are Overshadowed By Mustangs/sporty Imports, But If You Purchase One, Your In For A Treat. — Great acceleration/breaking/cornering, it never fails to turn heads, T-tops. The interior is tight-fitting and the build quality and use of materials could be better. The interior is made up of hard cheap plastic bits, typical gm vintage of the era. Car although has been very reliable, in part to a bulletproof 3800 series engine. In two years of ownership, I put in about $150 in minor repairs (oil, bulbs, battery terminal, spark plugs). I would recommend this car to anyone avidly looking for a sportier alternative (but cost effective) to a mustang, celica, rsx, tc, etc. This car could be considered a sportier and flashier alternative to its platform mate, the infamous chevrolet camaro. The only drawback is you'll be buying one used b/c gm fails to realize that there is a market for pontiacs and firebirds and having a pontiac was never a politically correct car to have. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) Pros: Decently fast, timeless defined lines, a head turner, reliable. Cons: If you want to comfortably seat more then 2 people your out of luck, interior quality. |

It's My Baby. — I'm in love with my car. It's not a v8, but we're madly in love nevertheless. The only thing I'm not too crazy about is replacing the headlights so constantly. Other than that the car runs great, isn't so bad on gas, and looks and drives great. Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: It's gorgeous, quick, and fun. Cons: I've had to replace my headlights constantly. |

2002 Pontiac Trans Am — This car was amazing. I bought it with 29,000 miles almost 4 years ago and just recently traded it in with just over 50,000 miles. It was ashame the economy has tanked, it would have been worth a lot more. It had it's issues but over all it never let me down and when I wanted to put the pedal down it never dissapointed. Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: The POWER! Cons: Nothing other than the wheels......the chrome kept pealing off the inside of the wheel |

Gas Sipping Muscle/sports Car — Everything you could get in a T/A minus the gas chugging 350. Leather interior, premium sound, T-tops, A/C, pwr everything, traction control, pwr drivers seat. Pros: T-tops, 5spd, 500 watt 10 speaker sound system stock, rear wheel drive, gorgeous, handles like a dream. Cons: Not as fast as a v8, no ram-air, quite exhaust. |
