Following a major makeover in the 2001 model year, there were few changes to the 2002 SLK230. Drivers like the car's looks, most notably its "aggressive" front spoiler.
The SLK230 came with a supercharged, 192 horsepower, four-cylinder engine, as well as Mercedes-Benz’s Electronic Stability Program. Other standard offerings included side-impact airbags, heated mirrors and a Bose sound system
The SLK230 is the smallest Mercedes offered in the U.S. with a wheelbase of just 95.5 inches. By way of comparison, that's five inches longer than Mazda's Miata.

In the 2002 model year Mercedes-Benz gave its SLK lineup some help in shedding its image as the "car for middle-aged divorcees" with the introduction of the SLK32 AMG. Built as a high-performance, limited edition the SLK32 AMG had a supercharged, 348 horsepower engine.
The car was built on the SLK320 platform but had added features in addition to its supercharged engine. Those perks included better suspension, wheels, styling and interior.
The SLK32 AMG reached 60 miles per hour from zero in just over five seconds and on to a governed 155mph.
