Outside of some minor aerodynamic improvements, not much changed between the 2000 and 2001 model years for the Mercedes-Benz SL 2000. By 2001 the platform was more than a decade old and drivers were begging for an overhaul (which would finally come in the 2003 model year).
The car is remarkably heavy for a sports roadster but on the whole, drivers had no complaints with how it handled. For most enthusiasts, the sl500 typifies the Mercedes-Benz ownership experience.
And naturally, it is the ultimate status symbol. The car has presence and "puts a smile on owner's face."

Mercedes "senior two-seat convertible" came complete with a monstrous, 369-horsepower V12 engine. A power soft top and removable aluminum hardtop came standard.
The biggest change from 2000 to 2001 was the addition of "aerodynamic" lower-body styling created by AMG, Mercedes' performance division.
The SL600 also got new two-piece AMG wheels. The TeleAid system added remote door unlocking, vehicle diagnostics, and alarm monitoring.
