2001 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra ConvertibleReview

01 Cobra Convertible — Good acceleration, good braking, good handling. The convertible top is much better than the 86 model Mustang I had previously. The top is much quitier, seals well. Ride quality isn't so great. I dislike the way the Top won't operate unless the car is in park. In stop and go traffic of 5mph or so, I could put the top down on the 86 model, now you have to apply the parking brake to put the top up or down.

Pros: Reliable, decent MPG, power

Cons: Seat isn't very comfortable, it's not a Porsche

Clean — i love everything about my car, everyone should drive one :), they are the greatest cars ever made ever in the history of man kind. who cares if it's a gas hog, its worth every penny, awesome to drive. wouldn't trade it for anything! when you turn your car on, does it return the favor? mine does :)

Cobra — This car accelerates quickly, however the power curve is high in the RPMs. (the redline is at 6800 but it will rev well over 7000) It handles great with its independent rear suspension and rides very comfortably. It looks awesome, sounds great, and is built Ford tough! Also, there is plenty of room for performance mods.

Pros: Fast stock, easy to mod, light engine block.

Cons: Expensive to mod, can't handle more than about 10.5 psi boost

My Baby.... — I love the rumble of the engine.... hate the fact that parts are more expensive for it.

This Beast Is Powered By A Vortec Blown 4.6 2v With Complete Suspension Mods — With over $15,000 in performance and cosmetic mods both inside and out this car is a head turner. From the lowered and modified front and rear suspension to the 31 spline axles turning a 3.73 limited slip rear this Mustang runs. Full Cobra styling conversion including bumper covers, hood and chrome wheels on which Nitto 555 radials are mounted for serious performance.

Pros: I eat Corvettes for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Cons: THe 400 rwhp is tough to put down

It Was A Beast — I did love this car, but it wasn't without it's faults. The CD player went out, the engine was starting to go when I got rid of it. There was also a high probability that the rear end would had to have been replaced, it was a design flaw in the 2001 models.

Pros: Powerful, fun to drive

Cons: Build quality wasn't great, gas guzzler, 2001 was a bad year for the Cobras

2001 Svt Cobra A Steed For The Long Haul, Good Performance, Handling, And Comfortable —

I bought my 2001 SVT Cobra used almost 2 years ago, I had been driving a 2001 SVT Lightning and the gas mileage was hurting me even at only 70 miles a day. Actually I wasn't even looking for another car having purchased the 92 1/2 LX 5.0 Limited Mustang, but the SVT BUG got and this car is Silver just like my Lightning, I have owned, well I guess this is my 6th or 7th Mustang, guess I need a BARN not a garage. ANyway for the review, these are remarkable Mustangs, yes at the time they were the most powerful stock mustangs available (that is no longer the case), put with this power came other things that Stang owners could only dream of, like precise and predictable steering, decisive braking and cornering, as well as I car that was more than accommodating for a long drive, 1200-1500 miles without so much a tingling in my back or leg! For an old man like myself that is saying something! Fuel mileage is great for a high performance vehicle, only average for other cars, 26H/ 18C, maybe 8 if you are only doing 1/4 or 1/8 at a time, I willusually get fuel at the track at 5.50 a gallon so I can't be sure of the exact mileage, if you are considering an SVT Cobra though you really need to TREAT yourself to a weekend at a road coarse, somethnig I would have NEVER dreamed of with my other Stangs ( but I did take the Lightning there on a few occasions) my local track is Seibring... it is way better than drag racing (or maybe it's that age thing again?)! Well I am getting (OFF) track again, lets see, other than normal maintenance the only thing I have had to replace in the last 30000 miles is a l/s window regulator (common in most all mustangs), but that is it, making these actually affordable after the initial purchase. The other thing I happened on by accident (if you looked at my 1992 LX 5.0 review) is the "classic insurance" companies consider this an "exotic" car, and once again I was STUNNED by the rate they quoted me FULL COVERAGE including "ACTUAL STATED VALUE REPLACEMENT" is less than 300.00 per year, I was paying over 2400.00 a year through Nationwide for both these cars, now I'm paying less than 600.00 for both of them! THe thing about buying these used, not as much to worry about abuse, the price difference between these and a GT Mustang usually means an older driver that is more likely to take it somewhat easy on the car, I mean a few trips to a road coarse isn't going to destroy a car right?? No really I'm asking! Really, these engines are HAND BUILT, and they are built for performance from top to bottom, they are going to hold there resale value very well the fact that there is no SVT anymore, plus they were always limited productions, as long as you take car of the car, you will not suffer when you sell it. As I always try to stress keep these cars as stock (as you can), I realize that air intakes, exhaust, throttle bodies, cams.... no problem, just keep the appearance as close to "stock" as you can and remember to SAVE THE OLD PARTS, you never know if the next person is going to want to take the car back to original condition and this can cost 1000.00's of dollars and it might make or break a sale for you. That is going to do it for the 01 SVT Cobra, I still have 3 1969 Mach 1's a 72 351 HO Convertible and a nice 1957 Fairlane with a 428CJ to do yet...... maybe I will work on them after diner, oh and I will do the 2001 SVT Lightning (although I don't have that anymore) I still remember a few things about it, and have a horror story to tell you that might change your mind the next time you want to do a performance modification while the vehicle is still under warranty

Owner for 2 years, 0 months

Miles Driven per Year:18,000

Pros: excellent braking, handles great, good on fuel, great power

Cons: same ole mustang interior, I want more from a 30000.00 car
