2000 Jetta Tdi — The Jetta is an all-around nice car. The diesel, not so much. The roughest time I had with this car was during the winter. There were many times during the winter where the car had a hard time turning over. I had to keep the block heater plugged in to get it started. I'm not complaining about the performance. Despite having such low horsepower, there is so much torque that i chirped the tires in four gears. This car was far more modified than my other car. This had new pads and rotors, cold air intake, bilstein shocks and struts, strut tower, and a cat-back exhaust. I also had the ECU re-mapped. The maintenance was extraneous. I was doing more repairs than upgrades. On the other hand, the gas mileage was unbelievable.

Pros: like all cars, it was tunable but the diesel made it unique

Cons: Its a VW

Runs Great But Electrical Problems Are A Nuisance. — Runs great, but electrical problems such as light fixtures are a severe problem and I see that I'm not the only one. I see these cars on the road with at least one external light out all the time. Other than that and besides the turbo having a second and half delay (as all do - only Porsche has perfected turbo charged systems), it's a nice city car.

Pros: Rarely have problems with performance, good size for city, decent mileage.

Cons: Electrical problems particularly with lights inside and out, cheap glove compartment handles, cigarette lighter plugi-in area too tight, wheel locks are unnecessery, turbo is okay.

2000 Vw Jetta Gls 1.8t — i love the car to death, but it keeps freaking breaking down. i wouldn't reccomend this car to ANYONE that isn't a mechanic...you WILL be working on it a lot. My favorite feature is that this car will outrun a 2004 and older mustang GT and get 25 mpg doing it...but it is not a gas saver under any circumstances. it's a cheap thrill. but i've been through a lot with mine...im kinda attatched to it

Pros: great power, somewhat ok gas mileage, comfortable ride

Cons: unreliable

My Tdi Jetta — TDI stick shift is the way to go! 43 mpg in the city man! Highway miles are around 48. Performance with the turbo is still kind of weak. But that's why they build WRX's! The durability and handling are excellent for a car priced under 17K..My only regret is not buying a second one and storing it!

Pros: MPG

Cons: Horsepower and performance

Not Worth The Price — The car handles well, I like the feel of it, but man does it fall apart a lot. I have put well over 50% of its value back in to it for repairs. Being a foreign car I should have seen high prices, but man 250 bucks to do a tune up on a stock car?

Pros: Handles well

Cons: Costs a lot to repair

Excellent Car! — After being a Ford fan for years (and still am at heart), I was persuaded into a VW and it's been the best decision car wise I have made. After 227,000km it still runs as if it were new. It is fast enough, the buld quality is excellent for a small car and very good on gas. I've put just over $1000 in maintenance in 4 years of ownership. I definitely recommend the MK4 Jetta to anyone!

Pros: Build quality, low maintenance, fuel economy, quietness, dateless styling.

Cons: Interior room, lack of power seats, some electronic issues.

Good Build Car — Throttle body becomes a problem around 100k. VR6 engine is a nice combo of power and gas economy. Lots of upside for upgrades such as turbo kits, SC's and anything else you can think of. I just wish that I had found out about the throtle body issue before I had bought it because it started to act up about 500 miles after I bought the car. Other than that, I can't wait to see what this car is going to be able to do in another 2 years. Lets just say turbo at least.

Pros: Great Power to build off of.

Cons: TOO MANY FREAKIN SENSOR ERRORS!

Great Car — Overall I love this car, however I do wish I would have sprung for the 1.8T or the VR6. With a miserly 115 hp this is not a performance car. I do like the pick-up it has in the 65-80 mph range. It's the 0-60 pick-up I wish I had more of. The interior is roomy enough and decently laid out. I don't like the Soft-Touch interior, it is rubbing off. The 2.0L engine "used" oil (1 qt per 100 miles) which was enough to ruin my engine over the first couple years I owned it. I had new rings put in to solve the problem, no more used oil...oh, and switched to synthetic at about 100K miles. Gas mileage is adequate, about 28-30 mpg highway. Which is nice because the cost of repairs seems to be slightly higher than other cars.

Pros: Looks, Interior (except rear seats), MPG, trunk space.

Cons: Engine, although newer models are better

Great Car — I had some issues with it and eventually had to get rid of it, but it was a great car and i miss it very much. If you get a VW, you have to be ready to deal with people not knowing how to work on it or not willing to.

Pros: Fun to drive. Lots of little things (amenities)

Cons: Someehat expensive parts
