2000 Ford Explorer 4 Door 4x4 — After having my '96 for 5 years, it and it being my first vehicle and all, i had quite the hard time leaving it but this has been a pretty great replacement. Bought it with 92k miles. Since then I have put on new tires, new sway bar links, new tensioner pulley, new belt, new spark plugs and wires and that has been about it. It came with a 4.10 rear axle with no limited slip however a quick run to the junk yard and a days worth of work and i had myself a 4.10 limited slip. Its not great for gas mileage (19 at best on highway) but it really puts every ounce of power the truck has got down to the pavement and it will haul our 4 place enclosed snowmobile trailer loaded up and everything at 70 mph. ( I also added air shocks in the rear as well so that helps a lot with load leveling and such) Other than that, it sits well on the road, I keep er' cleaned up all the time and she looks sharp, have been EXTREMELY happy with both my Explorer's! Been bullet proof for me!

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Handling in winter / capability / comfort / styling

Cons: Gas mileage (with 4.10) / sway bar links break fairly easily

Fix Or Repair Daily = F-o-r-d — Ok, if you can't say something nice...don't say anything at all. Here's something nice: It was great in the snow; I felt very safe in the bad weather. HOWEVER... It was a total piece of junk. I bought it with 39,000 miles on the odo, had it for no more than 1 week...and the transmission blew up. I replaced the Oxygen sensor and an exhaust gas sensor to try to cure a stalling problem (it eventually went away on its own). The power steering pump was moaning very loudly at 55,000 miles. When I got rid of it with 61,000 miles...the transmission was slipping again. Enough is enough! Build quality in the interior was terrible...lots of cheap trim pieces. The cloth seats were very comfortable, though. It had the base 4.0 V6 with 160 horsepower. Acceleration was TERRIBLE. Merging onto the highway involved a planted right foot and lots of prayers. Gas mileage was pretty bad (14-15mpg average no matter what, even on the highway). I may have just been unlucky and wound up with a lemon...but, I'd have to think long and hard about whether I'd buy another Ford ever again.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Capable in the snow and bad weather

Cons: Pretty much everything else...slow acceleration, poor gas mileage, low build quality, etc, etc.

Da' Exploder — I like this vehicle. Only had minor issues. Was an expensive car payment though. The only headache issue was the tire problems at the time. Too much back and forth between the dealer and the tire reps, but eventually they replaced them all.

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

Pros: Nice ride and lots of room

Cons: Very truck'ish (if that is not what you want)

Great Everyday Family Car — Great Solid car but not the greatest on gas mileage! The nice thing about this car is that the backseats fold down nicely so that more cargo can be hauled. Makes for a good car/truck type. Overall a good car with a lot of power.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: 4WD

Cons: Gas Mileage

Cheap Build, Expensive To Maintain The Little Things — Clock and radio display stopped working the month after I bought it. I have to keep a jar full of 7.5 fuses to keep my windshield cleaner sprayer working b/c they burn out on a monthly basis. Has been under recall for cruise control issues for years, my local dealer has YET to make time to repair my vehicle....the list goes on, and on, and on....Now the transmission is getting ready to go....

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Decent looking vehicle

Cons: Too many to list

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: The best selling MIDSIZED SUV for20 years in a row

Great Car, Built Strong, As Long As You Buy The 1998+ Generation Overall Solid — Love everything minus locks on rear lift door. The locks will slip and wont unlock without a few attempts. Cost is very low on maintnance! Audio is fantastic. Very powerful 4.0 V6. Capable off road and on, trailering etc. Gas sucks haha

Pros: Power, affordability, capacity, capability

Cons: door lock problems

4 Stars — It has good acceleration and braking, but no so good of a turn radius. The build quality is good, theres just a little leak in the vaccuum line. The maitenance cost isnt bad, gets about 15 mpg. It is fun to drive, just a little different from the sebring we had. The heated seats and tempurature control is nice, as is the 6 disk CD changer

Pros: Heated seats, sunroof, tempature contol, 6 CD changer

Cons: the check engine light wont go off, and the led for the radio is out

Fantastic.... — I bought this truck on January 21st, and haven't been able to drive it without something being wrong with it. As much as i love it for what it is, it sucks at being a vehicle. Since I bought it, I've needed a new exhaust ($600) a transmission gasket repaired/replaced ($550), and now I need to replace the air sensor, because it is the equivalent to a human choking when it idles, not enough air can get into the engine and it stalls. It sounds like a cat in a vacuum cleaner. On top of that, my heated seat doesn't work, my radio display is inactive, my ABS doesn't work, I need to replace my ball joints, AND my rear windshield wiper doesn't stick to the window, so it's basically pointless. This is the first truck I've bought, and i don't regret it... but it doesn't make me too happy knowing it's already needed roughly $2300 of work. Apart from these minor faults...... it's a great truck.

Pros: Looks good

Cons: WORK
