1999 Pontiac Grand Prix 2 Dr GTP Supercharged CoupeReview

Would Buy It Again. — The car is quite impressive in acceleration, good braking qualities and corners rather well. The overall build quality is good. It has required brake repair on two occasions (not bad for 14 years old) and the wiring harness was replaced, under warranty, at 27,000 miles. A few squeaks but certainly not bad. The cars appearance remains great. On road trips the GTP has gotten 29 miles per gallon several times, while cruising at 65 mph. Has had frequent oil changes, every 2,500 miles and 3 sets of tires. The car actually remains fun to drive and I consider it my great friend! Primary Use: Family transportation Pros: Brisk acceleration (1/4 mile - 14.97 @ 90 mph) only took it to an NHRA strip once and had a good time. Cons: Allows a bit too much road noise. |

A Beast — everything on the car is pretty easy to get to but when it comes to maintenance and you have to look up stuff online there's not a lot out there. It does have a lot of power and mine is fully loaded. don't go for the leather seats it gets really really hot in the summer Primary Use: Family transportation Pros: Power when u need it Cons: Gonna stop for gas often |

Good Beginner Car For A Kid. — I grew up in a GM family, this is the fourth Grand Prix we've had since 1963. I have always loved them- they have always been good cars. On this one- I bought this for my daughter's 16th birthday. She learned how to drive in a Trans Am, and with my previous experience with GP's, I knew this would be a good choice for her. Ours is a two door, has plenty of room in the front and rear, has a big trunk- for the junk...lol I think it's a good choice for a new driver. It's big enough so they wouldn't get too hurt in an accident, it has enough power to get out of the way, it handles and brakes good- really hasn't been any problems, other than what is going on now. Would I buy another one? yes. Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: Good steering and brakes and overall handling. Strong engine for 192,000 miles on it. Good beginner car for a kid- has good looks and style. Great Bose sound system- (factory.) Cons: Other than the issue I am having right now, nothing that I can think of. |

Pontiac, I Bought Many Machines From You And I'm Missing New Wide Tracks. — I purchased this Grand Prix GTP in April 1999 and I am pleased to say that it still occupies a space in my garage and is driven 3 or 4 times per week. It is very dependable. The performance has always been outstanding,on one occasion I took it to an NHRA dragway and it turned two 15.0's and a final run of 14.97 sec. In no way do I claim these times to be the quickest by a GTP but considering the factory gear ratio and weight of these cars, it is impressive. The car was and is totally showroom stock. The first set of brakes lasted for 81,000 miles and I have about 40,000 on the second set. Outstanding!! The handling is good but definitely not in a category with a WS6 equipped Trans Am. At 28,000 miles, I experienced a problem with the wiring harness and the warranty replaced it at no cost to me. The transmission still shifts positively even under full throttle. The supercharger has always had a slight whine until it reaches a normal running temperature, but I enjoy hearing it talk :-) The car has no rattles but has developed minor squeaks but even they are not bothersome at this point. The interior styling is good but I wish the dashboard had a bit more pizazz. The cloth seats are indestructable and look nearly new. Exterior wise the car looks great and has no rust or dents. It is a looker, great design Pontiac. MPG in town driving, 21 and highway 28+. Oil, filter and any lubrication has taken place every 2500 miles. Keep it clean and Mean!! This car is fun to drive and comfortable on long hauls. Primary Use: Family transportation Pros: It pulls hard all the way to its top end has never let me down. Cons: Entering the rear seat in this coupe is a chore. |
