1999 Peugeot 306 Gti6 —

Powered by an inline, naturally aspirated, 1998cc, 16 valve, dohc, four cylinder, producing 176 HP, mated to the first mass produced six speed manual transmission. The only true successor to the God of hatches, the 205 GTi, the GTi6 will cock the inside rear wheel through corners thanks to its fantastic chassis; however, back off mid-corner and the tail will hang out making for epic fun on windy roads! Push beyond the limit and you'll be punished with mild understeer. Unlike other members of the 306 engine family the GTi6 revs to 7000 rpm firing through 0 -100kph in 8.2 seconds. Low and mid range power is superior to the previous 2 litre engines making for a more practical drive in town. The GTi6 is a fantastic car to drive. However, it has not proved particularly thrifty, nor particularly economical to maintain. Lead-footed as I am I achieve about ten litres per hundred kilometres around town, significantly less in the country. Worse have been bills for the unique (to Peugeot at least) larger brakes. The front muffler has developed a rattle I believe to be the baffles - albeit more annoying than urgent. Worst of all are the electronics: the airbag light flashes incessantly in spite of trips to both the mechanic and auto electricians, the head and tail lights (but not the brake lights) have stopped working as has the interior ventilation. I previously owned a '96 306 XSi five door. The GTi6 - being a three door - has proved mildly less practical in this respect. Sadly the XSi was written off whilst parked in the street. However the six speed transmission and the vastly superior engine are truly in a league of their own when compared to the XSi. The XSi was significantly cheaper to maintain - for the brief period I owned it at least. The interior of the '6 betrays its performance aspirations - bucket pews up front. The seats, whilst wonderfully supportive are not well suited to the larger folks. The folding rear seats which, with the seat cushions removed, releases a large flat cargo area, are invaluable. All in all, the '6 is a car for the enthusiast. It drives fast and hard, with lovely turn in and a tractable motor to sling shot the car out of corners. For those who are squeemish about excessive bills - perhaps not the best purchase - however I would argue that its bargain purchase price allays much of those worries if anticipated.

Pros: Performance, entertaining to drive, styling, second hand purchase price

Cons: Maintenance costs, reliability, three doors are less practical than five

My Review — This model Peugeot runs really good on the road. The body is strong and reliable. It has a good breaking system and is really fun to drive. However, I think this is not the picture of the one I have. Mines has a sun roof. But more or less looks the same. The car does not drink gas, but parts are expensive.

Pros: Strong

Cons: Needs a paint job

Peugeot 306 — Performance isn't great, but hey it's my first car, can't expect a rocketship ;) Surprisngly well built for a french car :P Pretty reliable too, has only let me down majorly once As for looks, well in my opinion it's lovely ;) Interior doesn't look too bad either. It's a pretty cheap car to run with inexpensive parts and good fuel economy. And last but by no means leats it's great fun to drive, fwd oversteer makes me smile :)

Pros: Lots of things!

Cons: Not quick enough ;)

My Little Rocket — the acceleration is brilliant when the turbo picks up it is un stopable. the car is good looking not amaizing but it holds its own against other cars. its cheap to run and parts are easy to get hold of, it rarly goes wrong but its reasuring to know that if it does the part are there it's the best car you could want for a first car

Pros: fun and fast

Cons: expensive to insure

Peaugeot 306 — I decided to get this make beacuse I drove my mums and fell in love with it. I loved the shape, the feel of the gearbox and just about everything about it was great. I chose red because it stood out but it wasn't metallic so i thought it looked a little flat. When I got my next one I did go for metallic and it made a difference. I am lucky in some respects because i can choose a new car every three years through mobility, and our choices are endless, if we want to pay ddeposits. Peugeot are pretty good because they do have zero depoisit.

Pros: Shape, feel and general performance.

Cons: Non metallic colours leave it feeling flat.

Pug 306 Xsi — best and most beautiful peugeot ever built......xsi,not quite as fast as the gti6,but im not complaining with nearly 130bhp.1 downside is fuel consumption, cos that twin cam 2 litre 16v engine drinks like a 16yr old binge drinking teenage mum.other than that,1200 quid well spent

Pros: EVERYTHING

Cons: fuel consumtion+dodgy electronics if not looked after

306 Rallye — The Rallye is the best car they made after the 205's. Engine is great using the 6 speed gear box well. Handling is amazing! Being the rallye you get no luxuries but more power to weight ratio. This is a drivers car. Not for sitting in traffic every day!

Pros: Everything

Cons: Could be faster, like any car!
