1999 Ford Cougar . 10 Years And Still Running Strong —

Is that a Jaguar ? What this is a Ford ? I never saw it before...This still happens to me after now owning and driving the 1999 Ford Cougar. It was kind of love at first sight in 1998 when I saw the New Edge Mercury Cougar the first time in the US. Short time after, back in germany I saw a black Cougar at a Ford Dealer (in europe the Cougar was sold by the mother company Ford, because nobody knows Mercury). I am 1.96m, 6.5feet and I was wondering if I fit in that car. Yes, I fit perfectly (no sunroof). The engines available had 2L 130HP and 2.5L V6 170 HP. At that time my budget was not that big and I took the 2L in black. Huge trunk, enough room for me and a good performance, fast enough to reach the 209kph on the german Autobahn easily. Economy is from 7.5L /100km to 13L / 100km (32MPG to 18MPG). In the past 10 years I drove 160000km (100000miles) and had only regular issues. New Brakes, Shocks, clutch (thanks to city traffic) and one more expensive thing , the front left axle broke. But overall I am very satisfied with my Cougar. Took me everwheere I wanted to go and has enough room for luggage. In the years I did some tuning. I added a Stoffler Dual Exhaust, Stoffler Header, K&N Drop in Airfilter, 17" INXX rims, H&R lowering springs, tinted windows. All fits perfectly and gives the Cougar some extra spice.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Very reliable, good economy, huge trunk, sporty

Cons: none

Cougars Are For Everyone. — Miles of smiles. That is what driving should be all about and this car gives it in spades. Even Jeremy Clarkson had good things to say about this car. The V6 is the only engine to have and make sure you go for the X-pack with leather and a few other toys.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Looks

Cons: Nothing

I Miss The Style Of The Cougar! — Loved the Cougar...after I learned how to drive it. It had great power, was sleek, and was pretty easy to take care of. I especially loved the color of my Cougar! Extremely fun to drive as a late teen!

Pros: Sporty and cute!  Perfect "girly" car!

Cons: Two door made it kinda hard to get people in and out.  Wasnt too fond of the bucket seats either.

Mercury Cougar — Dislike? not fast enough but that can be fixed, not rwd or awd. and then don't make them anymore :(. It was built on a dead platform but they didn't want to step on the toes of the mustang, which is why they never came out with the Cougar S. Which was an AWD 200-220hp version of the Cougar with fancy trim like a lip kit and a 3.0L engine. That would have been awesome. But then again you can always build your own version of it too. Now I'm just rambling on. It's pretty dam good in the corners, as Jeremy Clarkson put it "it's no slouch" So it has decent acceleration, good braking and awesome cornering. Looks very hot inside and out, Doesn't need too many repairs, just general maintenance, for 10 years old not squeaks rattles etc. Easy maintenance for how hard I drive it, great gas mileage 30-36 highway, and 25 ish city (depending how hard you push it). It's lots of fun to drive, the pedals are placed perfectly for heel-toe downshifts, everything's in the right place. Defiantly a drivers car which is why it grows on you.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Awesome all around car, grows on you like a puppy.

Cons: If you hate Ford

Once You Get Used To It, It's A Nice Car To Own — Gas mileage is pretty bad, it eats through it and gets somewhere between 13-19 mpg, whichever it feels like that day. Acceleration is a little sticky, but once you get out of first gear you're good to go. I have never had a problem with the braking, they're very responsive. Except for the sticking shifting, overall handling is very nice. Car is very fun to drive once you get used to it.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Appearance, Handling, Relatively inexpensive to buy

Cons: Transmission, gas mileage

I Love It. — Everything about it i love, the only thing about it is the acceleration is a little low. I want to do some work on it. It hasn't needed alot of repairs but it's a very solid car. Gas mileage is very good for a V6 and maintenance is very easy. It's a very fun car to drive as well.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: 5 speed and how nice it handles

Cons: fwd and acceleration

Epic Fail — To be honest.. this is a decent car. Not performance wise, but its okay, got me from a to b. Some people found it stylish, and nice..? EPIC FAIL with the altenator. Replaced it 3 times, in 2 years. Fun to drive if you like going nowhere quick. Duratec.... another epic fail. Dont know how a car company can make cars for a 100 years and mess up this bad. Powered by the smallest v6 ever.. another joke. Small but there is available aftermarket parts. Some people did like this car... ex. cougarfest.

Pros: ummm projector headlights stock.

Cons: 170hp V6???!!!? wtf. alt

Drift Jorge — The thing about my car is the suspension is terrible but other than that the car accelerates pretty good and can get up to 100 in less than 10 seconds so it's good. I like the body too it looks aerodynamic and I love drifting with it in the SNOW!!!!

Pros: engine

Cons: suspension
