Really Great Truck. — I haven't really had this truck very long but it has been through some tough times already. I have taken it out in fields, heavy snow, and mud and its still going. A few problems here and there but nothing a little TLC won't cure.

Miles Driven per Year:30,000

1999 Ford Ranger Xlt Can Handle Almost Anything. Recommend To All —

I love this truck. Weve experienced mostly good things together. It wasnt the first truck i wanted to drive, but im glad i did. Its passed down from grandparents and if not for me getting a new 2006 motor, the truck would just continue sitting in the driveway. The alignment is off, headlights are yellow, wipers come on when you hit a bump (or when you say something good about the truck its "happy" sign is the wipers), back doors wont open, and it can lose traction when hitting a bump at high speeds. Then again its 15years old. It has won races against camaros and bigger trucks. The gas mileage is better with this new engine but maybe i drive it too much to realize it from The commuting from school, work, and visiting friends. Its Reliable, can off-road, tow, travel quite a ways. She may be small but can carry a lot. I push her limit at times to climb hills but so far no injuries. it is truly a great truck. Everyone has told me not to invest in it because its old and could break down. Well, ive put more than enough miles on the truck and shes still running. Someday ill put a lift on it and maybe a paint job. I have a great mechanic who has fixed up the truck and has made it a "classic" in my eyes. Maybe some day it will be.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Power, comfortable car, reliable, fuel economy

Cons: Transmission

Best Beater For The Money — This was my first real car. It is "do it all" car and can with not great mileage (worst ever was 12 mpg using lots of 4wd in the winter and best was about 21 mpg driving slow on the hw, typical 14/19 c/hw). These late 90's Rangers hold true to being a good bang for your buck as they kind of just run forever, haul most anything you could need to move and have a reasonably low market value. The extended cab is a MUST so you can lock more valuable things in the back of the cab, and I wouldn't plan on putting anyone in the back seat for very long if you want them to like you after the experience. It was nice to not have to worry about little dings and scratches like I would with a more expensive light truck (after all, it's a utility vehicle).

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

Pros: Value, good price/utility

Cons: fuel mileage 16/20 c/hw

I Love It, Its Like My Son. —

It has no muffler so it makes some good noise, the windows are tinted real dark and its got a good stereo system. The 4WD on it is solid, but the hubs suck. I also like that it drives nice on the road, the handling is good for a truck and it handles going off road well too, especially for only having mud terrain tires and self adjusting gas shocks. It gets terrible gas mileage, something like 10-12 miles to the gallon (believe it or not). Its a total blast to drive, everybody whos driven my truck loves to drive it and always ask me to drive my girlfriend is the only person I allow to drive it =) The truck performs very well it used to be really fast for a truck but that was before larger tires and many offroad adventures. Its still pretty fast to this day though, the acceleration is still pretty damn good and it makes a lot of noise accelerating too =) my girlfriend approves very much and she feels really hot driving it cause' it doesnt look like a girls truck haha. I think she looks very cute driving it. You can barely see her through the tinted windows but if shes got a window rolled down she looks awesome driving it =) I love it. It was my first truck and I've put something like 175 thousand miles on it. The truck has 250,000 miles on it and still going strong (It just randomly misfires a little)

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Its loud and fun

Cons: Its loud (Hard to be subtle)

When maintained and tuned properly, is a nimble and safe-handling all-weather vehicle. about 19mpg. big enough to sleep in with some adjustments. Good safety and amenities, like cargo rack, rear hatch window, child door lockouts, multiple airbags.
