Not As Refined As Its Japanese Competitors, But Not Bad For An American Car. — It's neither the slowest nor the fastest car I've driven, neither the smallest nor the largest, neither the prettiest nor the ugliest, neither the most reliable nor the least... You get the idea. It has some nice and unique features, such as the plastic body panels which seem to have been dropped from newer Saturn models for no good reason. It doesn't have the acceleration of the Nissan Maxima I used to have, but it does feel like it has a lower center of gravity. It's not without its problems, but it's as good or better than any other American car of its size and era.

Pros: Relatively cheap to insure and maintain.  Plastic body resists dents.  Engine has pretty decent power at 4000+ rpm, but will also go down as far as 1500 without stalling, so it's a pretty forgiving car to learn to drive stick shift on.

Cons: Engine is noisier and vibrates more than other cars I've had, and revs pretty high at highway speed.  Needs to downshift on long uphill grades.

Very Reliable — 1.9 liter sohc fuel injected engine. 4 speed auto transmission. stock quarter mile time is in the 17's. Well built vehicle holds together well. Small compact design, makes it easy to maneuver into small spaces.

Pros: A lot of after market upgrades avaliable

Cons: Slow vehicle acceleration, expensive parts

1998 Blue Saturn Sc1 2dr Coupe — Its an awesome car...I love it and i've had it for more then 2 months and has no trouble with it so far. Everything in there works perfect!!!

Pros: The speed i get in it. The gas for my car only takes about $23-$30 dollars.

Cons: The speakers for the base is not working but the regular speakers are. The Carpet on the drivers side is messed up. The windshield wiper arms are messed up. I've got a Vale leak.

Wonder Full Car.... — This is a great car for communing. It handles well and cruses like a jewel. Trunk space is ample and it is very reliable. This car is such an under-appreciated and over looked car. It has been very inexpensive to maintain and keep and the gas mileage is amazing especially on the highway. The car is not an eye catcher but at least it isn't a pocket picker. I just wish they had not stopped making them.

    Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Very reliable, low insurance cost, low maintenance, very comfortable, Handles well

    Cons: They stopped making them.

    Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Get great has mileage, great car if you like fixing things yourself.

    Cons: Power.

I bought a used low mileage 1998 SL2 after test driving a 1995 SL2 with 200,000 miles on it. The DOHC 4 cyl. and 5 speed manual filled my desire for sportiness and performance. The plastic body parts were durable enough. I would buy one for my young driver.

Easy to work on good gas mileage, The single cam more reliable engine but need to run mid grade gas and synthic oil to prevent oil burning at 90K miles. Twin cam plastic guide and adjuster break making chain loose. Engine can self destruct.
