The Old Ford Mondeo — bought this thing with 160k on the 1.8l turbo diesel engine. Was beaten off the lights by a girl in a 1.25 fiesta so it had to go. Think it got to 175k after i sold it before it died a hideous death with the engine going band in a big way !

Pros: absolutely nothing

Cons: just about everything

Mondeo St24 - Superb In Every Category — Reet. I bought this in July 2008 because I was getting bored of the Escort, sure it was nice to look at, but wanted something a bit more comfortable and something with a bit more power. The thoughts of an ST24 were coming along... they can be picked up for pocket money nowadays and that Duratec 2.5L V6 (designed by Porsche, Cosworth and Ford!) is has good as any. They look the part as well, and I went to have a look at one in Walsall. This car is amazing, and it fully kitted out... its got all the toys.. A/C, 4 electric windows, RSAP (Rallye Sport Appearance Pack), RCL, ESR, TC, ABS + loads more! It is so comfortable to drive and (unlike the Escort) there are no knocks, rattles and a load of road noise to contend with when talking to your passengers. The Mondeo ST series is one of Clarkson's favourite cars - must be a good car then! I havent even got to the best thing yet... which is (you've guessed it) - that engine. Its 2544cc of pure smooth power. 0-60 you're looking at about 7.5secs and it should be good for about 144mph and the noise it makes ! It sounds like the god of thunder with a toothache. Marvellous. So all in all, the combination of looks, comfort, reliability, handling and power have made me extremely impressed with the Mondeo. The only thing that stops me giving the ST a top mark in every category is that its a Mondeo under all that flashy dress and behind that superb engine. But does that bother me ? It may be a Mondeo, but its a Mondeo that might just eat you alive !

Pros: Power, Looks, Comfort, Handling, Build Quality

Cons: 2.5L V6 is a bit thirsty !  Its a Mondeo !

Mondeo St24 V6 — Mondeo ST24, 80k on the clock, brought for £1700. Absoutly solidly built, shes powered by a 170bhp, Duratec 24v V6 onto a MTX 5 speed manual transmission. Its an absoutle blast to drive, the traction control isnt intrusive, but it stops you from shredding your tyres all the time, It has endless torque, will pull like a train in any gear, and if you really give it some (on a closed road of course) you`re good for nigh on 140mph. The ST24 gets about 20-odd miles to the gallon if driven gently (which thanks to its torquy V6 and nigh perfect gearing, is pretty easy), and alot less if you give it some :D. Thanks to its sports suspension (lifted partly from the 16v 2l Si) keeps you glued to the road through the harshest corners. Could do with better brakes, and the exhaust rubbers wear out fast, meaning you start to get the exhaust knocking on the bodywork. Finally, to top it all off, the car is finished off with ford`s RSAP (Rallysport Appearance Package), so you have a full body kit (designed by ford motorsport, not chavs `r us :D), 16" alloys, half leather bucket seats, and other small details that make the car really stand out. Its a proper head turner, fast without being undrivable, comfortable on long or short journys, decent MPG for its class (never going to beat modern diesels but thats the price you pay), and its worth every penny :)

Pros: Looks, Performance (acceleration and top speed), Handling, lovely V6 engine noise :)

Cons: Brakes, Torque steers when you give it some coming out of a corner, english fuel prices :(

Great Drive, Good Engine. — A good drive from FWD car, strong 4 cylinder engine (smoother than the 2.5l V6), I really enjoyed owning this car. I had the 'Verona' model, so got air-con, electric pack, alloys etc. Sooo many of this second generation mondeo around you can pick a superb example up for mere hundreds of Pounds.

Pros: Good engine, comfy, good looking car.

Cons: Not much in the way of power, ford servicing expensive and pointless - so many indies around.

It Was The Verona Turbo Deisel, With All The Bits Of A Vetec Fitted. — Good car, the Verona spec incuded a rear spoiler, alloys, air con, electric windows. Very economical, would easily do 60 mpg on a long run.

Pros: Big comfortable car, great for long journeys.

Cons: Could feel a bit too big when only driving it around town.
