Ford Explorer 2 Door Sport. 4.0 Sohc Ho V6 — I bought the SUV from my grandpa in April of 08. It only had 105,000 miles on and it runs like a champ. Really fast, sturdy, and fun SUV. Good job Ford. The SUV doesn't get many looks but when i those annoying guys in the riced out civics and crap pull up next to me and rev their little 1.8 litre 4 bangers i just laugh and step on the pedal and the awesome sound from my tailpipe just shuts em up. Aceleration in first gear may not be the best but second gear is the power gear. I can pull 50 in 1st gear almost 85 in 2nd gear and i havent really taken past 108 in 3rd so i'm not 100% sure about the rest but the point is, for a HO V6 this thing can boogey. Gas milage leaves a little to be desired but with a cold air intake, header back exhaust, hotter plugs, and some good tires the SUV would gain at least 50 HP and about 10 MPG. Bringin it from 20 some to 30 some hopefully. Not bad for my second vehicle

Pros: Great SUV, fun, easy to repair (if needed)

Cons: Gas prices suck and this isn't so easy on ur wallet

The Beast — The radio doesn't stay in, not the best acceleration...transmission makes awkward noisees when sitting...the doors are kinda hard to open...someone shot a paintball at the floor on the inside!!! The Vin number comes up as two different things (Eddie Bauer 2WD and Explorer Sport 4WD), the paint is chipped, there are lots of dings...but overall it's pretty nice. Great back seat, it folds flat ;)

A Nice Overall Car — A very nice car with pretty good handling. It's a very capable car and has room for 5. It's also pretty luxurious considering the original purchase price. The two drawbacks are that it is a bit tall and presents a rollover risk, and that the mileage is not good at all in the city, but out on the highway it is really nice.

Pros: Awesome acceleration, nice handling, excellent visibility, easy to drive, rear seats fold down for extra storage

Cons: bad mileage, tall, high risk of rollover

Decent Ride — The motor is solid, the tranny, not so much, have a few issues with that, but that's it.

    Pros: 4wd

    Cons: Ford Automatic Tranny

Good For The Money — I like it because it was cheap. I was expecting to have to do work on it because it had like 125000 miles. But it runs really good. Still with like 130000 miles its still going. My only regret was buying a 2 dr. It handles good for an suv and has alot of power. I havent got to test it offroad yet but if its anything like i hope, it will do pretty good. Overall good car.

    Pros: Looks, performance, 4x4

    Cons: Small, 2 dr

I Find The 98 Limited 4wd A Great Car For The Money, 4.0l Engine Is Dependable.overall The Ride Is Ok But It Does Drive Like A Truck. — Overall the 98 Limited Explorer 4WD is a decent vehicle. Little things keep it from being great. The Power door lock button(driver side especially)often stops working. THE REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER SUCKS!!Cant believe Ford has not recalled the vehicle for virtually all years just for the rear windshield wiper! Does ANYONE have a Ford explorer with a rear windshield wiper that does work? Also, tires will regularly develop a scalop that makes a wom wom wom noise as it goes down the street. Front end allignments help but do not stop the problem.Rotating tires to get them going in the opposite direction does help, but doesnt stop the problem completely. In spite of these faults its still seems like a fairly good vehicle for the money. There are a ton of them on the road, parts fit many model years and the supply of parts is plentiful. There you have it, thats my review. And if the 98 Explorer Limited 4WD that i just bought falls apart, i will definitely write another review. Thank you and happy Exploring.

Pros: Lot of vehicle for the dollar. Can easily find used models in really nice condition.

Cons: Dealers snatch up Explorers and doctor them to the max,so watch out. Also,I'm not impressed with overall durability of electrical seats or PDLs.

Very Well Rounded. — Its a well rounded SUV. Very sturdy. Easy to put a nice stereo in it, though the stock one, once o.k. for the 90's, is horrible and blows very easily. Quite a few aftermarket parts available. Mine will soon have over 2500 watts of stereo system power in it. It can easily keep up with any other SUV of similar size. The only true maintainance its needed over 100k miles is a fan belt and oil changes.

Pros: Actually more powerful than it looks.

Cons: Way to top heavy. Crapy transmission that dramatically slowes the car down.

Nice Looking, Comfortable Lemon — Love the ride and looks of it, have had it a couple of years. After $2000 worth of front end work, $2700 rebuilt transmission, several hundred dollars trying to have electrical malfunctions tracked down & fixed, if one more major component gives out, it's going to be pushed off a cliff. This is my first Ford...and will be my last! Just too unreliable and expensive for me.

Cons: Unreliable, electrical nightmare, terrible gas mileage, cheaply made
