Best First Bmw — I suggest getting the 5-speed as opposed to the automatic, since its peppier. To me, these cars seem to fool your senses. Though some may say that the older BMWs have a rather boxy, economy car look to them, I feel they handle like a fine sports car (as with most BMWs) in the turns. I've hit some clover-leafs here in NC at speeds up to 60/70 mph without even a hint of tire screech or worrying about the back-end giving way. If you are in the market for a good multi-purpose vehicle, and don't have a fortune to spend, take a look at the 318. To me, this vehicle certainly packages BMW-expected quality for an affordable price (newer models run in the low to mid $20000 range). Unfortunately, since BMW discontinued manufacturing this model, you won't be able to purchase one brand new. However, some dealers do have a few used models in great condition for sale.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Dependabillity, appearance, maintenance cost, fuel economy, drivability

Cons: None

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: All Black/black, handles great. Standard. Very fun to drive. Great on gas. 2 dr, roomie back seat and trunk space. Body on good condition. Used to go back and forth to work.

Cons: rear wheel drive, and I live in a rural area and am now traveling a lot and need an SUV for work.

Wife Loves It So Will Keep Up For Her As Long As She Wants. — For a wife that loves sporty cars, this little sedan is eye-catching. I'm a big guy so I avoid having to drive or ride in it like the plague, it's just too small for my comfort. On a sunny day, though, open the sun roof and tear up and down some curvy hills ... the 4-cyl has enough oomph to be fun, the suspension is tight, it brings everything that BMW brings to the table. Be ready to pay through the nose for repairs, but you already know that.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Fun, sporty

Cons: Repairs expensive

Bmw 316se — brilliant and reliable, smooth drive just slow on acceleration heavier on petrol than some 1.6 engines out there but a common fault with bmw but the quality certainly makes up for it, just becareful in bad weather ie snow as rear wheel drive

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Reliable, smooth drive

Cons: acceleration or lack of it

I Would Love To Have Another — Loved this car, had good power, handled like on rails. This was the 323is so it was the two door with ground effect molding, was chipped and rolling on Konig wheels. Looked like an M3. Unfortunately I did it in with a stupid, stupid, stupid, high speed downshift that blew the PCM.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: ultimate driving machine

Cons: cost of maintenance

Bmw 318i 1998 — This one is the smallest BMW type. It is very powerful even though the engine only 1.8L. It has a very impressive handling and very handy dashboard. This car also very efficient in gas, and has a luxury interior. This car is fun to drive, because its small size and powerful acceleration.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Imppressive handling, powerful engine, small body

Cons: many problems with electricity.
