Great Car, Im In Love. A+++ — Performance wise this car, stock 2.0, is slow but that can be taken care of with a few minor upgrades(ie. exhaust, intake, cam) all in all it isnt too bad. Build quality.. lets face it, its a mk3 it breaks a lot, maybe not always "broke down" but something is always broken haha. Appearance, yous may not like it but you give this car some coilovers, wheels, and a good wash and it is one hell of a looker in my book. Overall, i really hate how much i really love this car, i have thought about getting something different, something newer, but i know deep inside it just wouldnt be right. :)

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: its an all around "fun" car

Cons: there seems to always be something wrong with it lol

Tiana — This car was scary quick, it had all sorts of low end balls and there was enough torque to get it into first without any gas. Drop it into 3rd around 55, and you'd blow by mustangs. Other than that, this thing was a money pit.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Pretty damn quick.

Cons: Heavy, Electrical demons.

Its Awesome... If You Put A New Motor In — Its a nice car, has a BIG boot, the new motor definately makes it good, it now makes 82kw stock which isnt bad. not the ideal motor to mod, but options are porting and flowing head, webbers, new cam, exhaust.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: We have a new 1.8 motor =)

Cons: A bit plasticy

If You Drive A Vw You Ain't Gonna Change To Opless(opel) — handling Wicked, performance for a 2L8v not bad. build quality for the price is extremely good. gas mileage is superb considering the weight aspect. cost of ownership ( you cant buy better for the price. styling is large & bulbous but still a head turner if done right!

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: if you want german quality, ease of maintenance, affordable aftermarket performance products its got it all

Cons: nothing

It Is A Car Worth Paying For. Because They Will Go Forever If You Do Some Preventive Maintenance. — This car overall is a pretty good car. For only having 115hp it is quite peppy. But that is because it has higher gear ratios in the transmission compared to most other VW's. The motor is running as strong as i could ask it to. Although the motors are really strong in these cars, the transmissions are not that good. Although it shifts smoothly, i feel that the transmission could have been built beefier. The lack of sway-bars on the car is also a problem to me. My car does have a cat-back exhaust from Magnaflow. And if anyone has a MkIII jetta or golf i would recommend getting it because it sounds amazing and it definately makes the car drive more spirited. A list of parts to go on the car: cold-air intake, high-flow cat, header, tuned ECU, KONI Special D struts, Eibach Sportline lowering springs, aftermarket wheels, short-throw shifter, bigger throttle body, and possibly a new, bigger camshaft with adjustable timing sprocket.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Peppy, fun to drive,

Cons: TRANSMISSION

Review Of My Jetta — Performance- From factory: nothing to brag about. Great low end torque. Good gas mileage, VERY dependable. Build Quality- Its a VW, so its got its quirks, but a well built car IMHO Appearance- The Mark 3 Golf/Jettas are one of my favorite generations of VWs design history. Stays true to previous generations "look". Everything else afterwards was a big change Cost of Ownership- Get past maintenance, and its pretty cheap to own. Low insurance rates, and great MPG Fun Factor- My favorite car I've owned so far... ad some mild mods to it, and its a blast to drive.

Pros: Its a VW

Cons: Hecho en Mexico

'97 Jetta Gls — Acceleration: Not bad. Currently dont have the sway bar in cause the links are gone. Gotta find the links for my aftermarket bar now. Black exterior, 6 CD changer, 12 speakers. Soon adding 2 subs. Extremely fun to drive around town.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: the car

Cons: no subs yet

It's Great For Tuning. Parts Are Easily Accesible When Needed. — I love my car because it's red and a VW. It has an high lift cam and reinforced valve springs. The gas mileage isnt bad , mostly because i dont drive it very far between fills. The interior is in great shape, power windows and doors and A/C.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: It's a VW

Cons: It's 12 years old

It's A Volkswagen, Love It Or Hate It — solid built car. currently has original transmission, clutch and engine at 190,000 miles. all that needs replaced is transmission. engine still runs beautifully. easy and cheap to maintain if you can do some of the work on your own. mechanics will get you for all you're worth just because it's german, so do your research. made me a vw customer for life.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: it's a volkswagen

Cons: it's a volkswagen

Good Enough, But Theres Alot Better Out There, I Actually Would Like To Sell The Car For Parts, — The top end of my 97' Jetta is amazing, When I races sleepers As soon as I got up to 65 mph, I lifted off and they couldn't touch me. The exterior isnt great looking, I kinda wish I looked like the Acura NSX or Silvia. Id even be happy if it looked like the Mitsubishi Diamante

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: comfortable and gets you from point a to point b

Cons: parts are expensive and there is no aftermarket, you need all OEM parts
