Not A Bad Car For The Money — I bought mine used in January 07 from my sister-in-law, and I have only had minor complaints, but nothing that isn't too easy, or can't wait to be fixed, suspension is kind of a complaint on my part, because I'd like it to ride a lot smoother. Only other complaint, and I don't know of a fix for this, is that when it rains, the belt can get wet, and squeal like a banshee. Love the interior, love the speaker layout, love the ride on the highway. Things to keep an eye on after 75,000 miles: tie rods, struts, alignment, and also, the fuel rail leaking problem can be solved by simply doubling up the o-ring.

Over All It's O.k., But Then I'm Also A Aircooled Volkswagen Lover, But U Can Never Beat Free! — So far seems to be an all round good car & easy 2 maintain, but the transmissions in these cars potentially suck & are the first things 2 go! The overall apperance is pleasant, not 2 boxy & not 2 bubbly. Gas mileage, is eh, ok 4 what it is & how old it is. Fun....Oh Yeah, it's got some get up'n'go & it coasts awesome! Now I just need 2 get the stereo hooked up.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: It actually handles very nicely, like a sporty Buick. gol

Cons: Known 4 bad tranny's, as is the neon.

Served its purpose for a long time. Durable with lots of room inside for both back and front seat occupants. Trunk is plenty big for a car this size. The high output engine is a nice touch. The only main problem I had with this car over 12 years of driving was reoccurring problems with the tie rods and front end alignment. Everything else in the car was problem free. Per the manual I used 89 octane gas or higher. I also followed the maintenance schedule, and I had no major issues with this vehicle. It is also a smooth ride on the highway. Handling-wise, its not so great with lots of understeer plagued by the weight and size of the vehicle, I presume. It is a large car, and not a beginners vehicle. The turning radius is really wide, and it can make parking tedious for inexperienced or low-skilled drivers. Its almost like an Econoline van in that regard.

Power Ranked 2009 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Limited better.
"The Subaru is almost 2 seconds quicker to 60 mph. It also tops out at a higher speed. Its a faster car all the way around. The Subaru has more power and torque in a smaller, lighter frame."
Handling Ranked 2009 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Limited better.
"Because it does. The suspension, lower center of gravity, and AWD lend it to better handling. Its actually far superior."
Looks/Style Ranked 2009 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Limited better.
"I like how it sits like its ready to pounce at any time. "
Front Seats Ranked 2009 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Limited better.
"The Subarus are heavily bolstered leather seats that practically pull you into them, and they keep you there snugly. Theyre more comfortable. And, theyre also heated in the Subaru, which is a plus. Also, the instruments and buttons are laid out better in the Subaru."
Back Seats Ranked 2009 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Limited worse.
"The Intrepid has much more room in the back seats with ample head and leg room for large adults."
Cargo Capacity Ranked 2009 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Limited worse.
"I could fit my 4X12 guitar amplifier cabinet in the back seat of the Intrepid. I cant put it anywhere in my Legacy."
Family Car Ranked 2009 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Limited worse.
"It has more room for passengers and cargo."
Value Ranked 2009 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Limited better.
"Its loaded with all kinds of options not available on the intrepid. Prominent are the winter-beating options; heated mirrors, heated wipers, heated seats. Its got a better factory stereo system. Its also AWD. The intrepid is FWD."
Would Buy Ranked 2009 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Limited better.
"Its a better car for me. I like a quick, practically utilitarian vehicle that handles like a BMW and is also a monster in the snow and ice. If I was more concerned about space and passengers, then maybe the Intrepid is a better choice because it has a lot more room. But, I have no kids, and I dont have many passengers. The trunk and back seat are large enough to hold camping equipment and luggage for two adults on a road trip for four weeks. Thats plenty for me. Plus, its a far more fun car to drive. "
