I Love It!! — This V8 makes the miles per gallon a little more expensive but Its cheaper to ensure a month so it evened out.. I bought this truck as a work truck but is a great family vehicle as well with plenty of room. I cant compare with other trucks because this is my first but I absolutely love it!!

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

Pros: Cargo, Space inside, a/c and heat work great..Runs great

Cons: Gas Mileage

A Great Truck For The Average Bush Bogging Person. Or To Go Out To Camp With. — i like the 4x4 system and offroad capability. fuel economy aslong as everything is in tune. i don't like the 4L60-E tranny or the weight of the truck. wish it came with manual locking hubs and a straight axle front differential but the stock driveline is a pretty tuff one.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: 4x4 drive line is virtually un-killable. for the average joe. 350 v-8 is a very well powered well mannered engine with relatively good fuel economy. manual t-case easy to work on

Cons: bad braking concept. rear end tends to lock first in winter driving. hard time to bleed back brakes. 4L60-e tranny common problems are wearing out the 3-4 clutch packs.
bad for pitman and idler arms going.

Chevy — Performance is o.k., needs bigger brakes and more power for towing i think. build quality is crap to me with fit and finish, but that's GM for you... i like the boxy style, needs a chopped top though. gas millage bad, repair is way cheeper then my VW. lots of fun, not as much as a car because i like to go fast not off-road

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

Pros: 4wd

Cons: gas hog

Bought this vehicle with 12,000 miles on it. 300,000 miles later it still runs strong and drives great. Highly recommend this truck. Keep up the maintenance and take care of it. Dont abuse it. It will last and look good for a long time.

1997 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Silverado RWD Review
GuruT8T8L says:
This was the last 350/5.7L offering in the Chevy truck line. The engine produced 255 hp and made very good use of the power. The trucks had many refinements over previous model years, along with acceptable mileage and good handling characteristics. The long box, (my personal favorite over the short box) gave a lot of cargo capacity and still retained good on-road handling characteristics.

Power Ranked 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Extended Cab LB 4WD worse.
"This was the 350/5.7L engine at its apex of technology. Its actually rated lower in horse power over the 5.3L in the 99 which replaced it in the newer Silverado, but it seemed to make really good use of the power."
Handling Ranked 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Extended Cab LB 4WD better.
"The newer truck is a bit more refined as a newer body style. It handles a bit better."
Looks/Style Ranked 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Extended Cab LB 4WD worse.
"Its a bit more aesthetically pleasing over the 99 Silverado. The 97 is also a bit more of the classic looking truck."
Front Seats Ranked 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Extended Cab LB 4WD better.
"Newer model, newer seat design, just a bit more comfortable and easier to get into and out of."
Back Seats Ranked 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Extended Cab LB 4WD better.
"There is no back seat on the 97, its a standard cab. (Remember, this is my personal opinion on 2 vehicles I personally own, being rated against each other)."
Cargo Capacity Ranked 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Extended Cab LB 4WD worse.
"Again, this is my 2 vehicles that I own. They both have the same 8 foot long-box bed, but the 97 also has a topper, whereas the Silverado has an open bed. The 97 can carry more cargo."
Family Car Ranked 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Extended Cab LB 4WD better.
"The extended cab over the standard cab carries more individuals."
Value Ranked 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Extended Cab LB 4WD worse.
"For an individual, the standard cab would be a good, lesser expensive purchase if you didnt need the extra in-cab space. For a family, the extended cab or even the crew cab would be a better option."
Would Buy Ranked 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Extended Cab LB 4WD better.
"The 99 being a 4X4 and extended cab is a better option as a family vehicle. The 97 is an excellent work truck."
