Decent Car, But Better Engine Models Available. —

2.0 16v ECO TEC. I'm not a fan of this engine at all. If given the choice I would much rather have the 2.5 V6, but for £500 this was a bargain. Apparently it will do 0-60 in about 8 seconds. I doubt it was 8, but it won't have been much more. It has plenty of mid range torque which makes overtaking very quick, very easy and very fun. It will go on to a top speed of 135 mph and does this as smoothly as it does 40. The handling isn't great. It will understeer to the point where you will actually avoid roundabouts and sharp turns if its raining. However, if you do somehow manage to get some oversteer at high speeds it is very manageable. Servicing is easy enough as there is just about enough room and parts a cheap as you can get most off a vectra or cavalier. Clutch is an issue. Gearbox needs to come out and if I'm not mistaken, this involves removing the subframe, so its a big job. Insurance wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but is still quite high. Fuel economy is alright, but if you want good mpg, get a diesel or a pushbike... Looks speak for themselves, very nice looking car & very aerodynamic. Lots of these are over chavved - Big wheels and cheap bodykits will ruin the looks. If it was in good nick, I would definitely have gone ahead with the Omega 3.0 V6 conversion. I am seriously considering getting a V6. Would love a turbo but they're very hard to come by these days.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Good mid range torque, decent enough speed.

Cons: ECO TEC is the worst engine to have.

Great If You Like Speed And Looks But Will Take Up Alot Of Your Time — a very sweet 310bhp and a 0-60 of under6 secs. Has had a full stage 4 engine biuld / a new sports 4x4 box/ eds stage 3.5 set up/ all new sensors/ upgrade brakes/ large intercooler. She does around 20ish mpg and it fully maintained by myself.. can be a bit of a $$ eater but she is very good fun to drive beating most of the new cars on the road.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Shes an eye catcher and a buzz to drive

Cons: You need deep pockets to keep in A1  shape

Getting Old But Great — Fab car .. getting a bit old now but they are very stylish and also have great power performances. The calibra is very easy to repair and maintian and they are also very easy to make them look even more stylish than they already are. Good interiors and great interior specs SR EW EM CL Heated seats ..leather... MPG wise, they are 2ltr upwards so not fantastic but still good for a 2ltr. The 8 valve engines kick ass although the 16v ecotec was good on the motor way, along with the highly tuneable 6 speed turbo models ...on miles to fuel ratio

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: comfortable, lots of room, stylish, cheap

Cons: old models rust alot

Great Car With Rubbish Handling. — I had the 2.5 V6 version of the Calibra. It's straight line speed was quite good but it was rubbish around corners.

Pros: Leather, air con, power.

Cons: Cornering. Unreliable.
