The Best Car Ever Built! — This car runs flawlessly! It is 18 years old and has never has one issue -- it's needed maintenance as all cars need, but I've never had any issues at all. It's quiet, balanced, well made, quality, well equipped, easy to drive, plenty of space, comfortable, great visibility. Seriously, I don't know how Lexus could have built a better car! And, I doubt there's ever been a better car! This car will last another 20 years!

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Comfortable, quiet, easy to drive, well equipped, sensational quality, well built, this car will run forever and last as long as you want to keep it -- all with just the basic maintenance.

Cons: None.

Impressive — My '96 LS400 has been a great vehicle. I still drive her on a daily basis and have absolutely no reason to get rid of her. The only "repair" I have had was this year(2014) when the fuel pump went out on me. Wow, Lexus can't make a fuel pump last for more than 183K miles 18 years later?, lol. Great Great vehicle!

Pros: Wow... 183,000 miles later this car still looks good inside and out, drives/handles good, has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned.

Cons: NONE!

Fabulous — I've owned this LS 400 since 1996 and it has been a fabulous car - comfortable, great to drive, fuel efficient and with a great Nakamichi stereo and CD player. It has always been incredibly reliable from a sevice standpoint. Excellence and comfort throughout.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Bullet proof reliability and a great highway cruiser

Cons: MPG 17/24

Do Not Buy The Import Models - Cheap And Tacky Compared To Adm. — A pleasure to drive as it has every option needed for someone who spends all day in a car. Twin mandrel bent exhaust coming up with an under bonnet blower to follow. Charcoal 20" rims will complete the package. Not the prettiest car around, but I am more into comfort now after owning my share of muscle cars and unique vehicles.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Luxury to the max!

Cons: Nothing!

This Car Made Us Loyal Lexus Brand Owners — still drives as it did when pruchased, amazing quality and handling and for a V8 it is excellent with gas mileage as well.

Pros: everything about the car

Cons: rear wheel drive not good for snow days

Still A Luxurious Ride After All These Years! — Our Lexus was kept in prestine condition. Still looks brand new inside and out. Very quiet and comfortable ride. The only complaint is that sometimes the speedometer doesn't work for awhile but then it comes back on.

Miles Driven per Year:9,000

Pros: Smooth ride, comfortable seats, big interior, sleek design

Cons: Wind sounds louder when riding on highways, faulty speedometer

Power Ranked 1996 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E 320 worse.
"A car with a 260hp motor obviously is more powerful than one heavier car with an anemic 217hp motor."
Handling Ranked 1996 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E 320 better.
"The MB steering has better road feedback than that of the Lexus"
Looks/Style Ranked 1996 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E 320 better.
"The 3-point star has been a sign of legendary mark since 1909. Lexus as a luxury brand was only introduced in 1989. It is obvious all the exterior aspects surrounding a Mercedes shows a more mature and stately presence than one which is 80 years junior."
Front Seats Ranked 1996 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E 320 worse.
"My opinion is only a personal one as I understand the seats in an MB is principally designed to fit adults of bigger stature than an average Asian."
Back Seats Ranked 1996 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E 320 worse.
"My opinion is only a personal one as I understand the seats in an MB is principally designed to fit adults of bigger stature than an average Asian."
Cargo Capacity Ranked 1996 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E 320 worse.
"The footprint of the trunk is about similar size, but the Lexus trunk is deeper by a touch."
Family Car Ranked 1996 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E 320 worse.
"For a base model, the Lexus offers almost everything over and above that in an MB base. To get an equivalent in an MB one would need to spend a couple thousands more."
Value Ranked 1996 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E 320 worse.
"According to Consumer Report, the reliability rating of Lexus is much better than average as opposed to MB being average."
Would Buy Ranked 1996 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E 320 worse.
"Typically, MB has lost its glory of being one of the most reliable brands. The reliability arena that is pretty well dominated by Lexus. I used to drive an MB 420 SEL, but now she is retired in my garage waiting to be rescued by a knowledgeable mechanic."
