Reliable In All Weather Conditions And Easy To Drive. — 4 wheel drive is great. Ok gas mileage. Never gets stuck in the snow or in the mud. Interior handles all types of mud and dirt. Engine never fails to start, and will go forever if regularly cared for. Overall, very little problems. very solid vehicle

Pros: 4WD, easy to drive,

Cons: Accelerates slow, and 16 city mpg just eats a full tank

Great For Getting Stuck In The Mud — It was a good car, had lots of fun offroading and it was good for getting around town. Bit of a gas guzzler tho.

Pros: great for offroading

Cons: It was purple and stock

Good First Car — Great first car. Got me from a to b. I did rebuild my engine. After that i did go through a lot of water pumps. Three i think. Great in the snow and for off roading.

Pros: Its great for off roading and snowy conditions

Cons: little maintenance.

Buy One That Hasn't Been Off-roaded Or Tinkered With, So Have Your Mechanic Inspect It To Be Sure. —

I'll start with the negatives first. Due to the fact the the XJ is a heavy, 4-wheel drive SUV, it's fuel economy is quite bad, weekly fill ups are to be expected. Also, the XJ doesn't have much in the way of creature comforts either, just AC, and a CD player. The noise on the interior gets pretty loud above 50, especially with larger tires. Now the pluses. XJs are very cheap to buy, a good one will run you about $2000, which in today's economy is nothing. If you pick one up with the 4 liter inline six, you'll be amazed at how much it scoots, even with over 200,000 miles on it(like mine). XJs are renowned for their reliability, the only issue was one the 80s models, they had iffy electrics. In terms of space and capacity, the XJ is very spacious, with back seats the fold flat. Now the important bit, off-road capability. The XJ is one of the best 4x4s on the market for the money, and it only gets better with modifications. If you can look past the nagatives, which are really a downside of most SUVs, then the Jeep Cherokee is the perfect 4x4 for you.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Best 4x4 for the money.

Cons: The only thing I don't like is the fuel economy, but all SUVs have that problem.
