1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4-Door 4WDReview

Great For A 3rd Vehicle But Can Be A Bit Dicey To Rely On Every Day. — I love that this truck is so simple and rugged. It's very hard to break and very reliable overall. Mine has 233K on it and it runs great still. The only quality issues are for the smaller items. I've replaced the original radiator because the original was leaking and half plastic. Ive also replaced: door switches, starter, brake master cylinder, wheel bearing, catalytic converter, rear main seal, rear hatch struts and latch, battery and water pump all in the last 2 years. I purchased this vehicle from the original owner 2 years ago with 212K miles. All things considered these repairs were due and most cars never make it to 233K miles at all. I expect to get many more miles in the years to come. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) Pros: Rock solid Cons: little nagging issues and poor fuel economy |

Great For Me — I love the power and the amount of torque that the 4.0 litre straight six puts out. The AX-15 5 speed manual transmission is a great mate, along with the NP-231 transfer case. The Dana 35 rear and Dana 30 front seem to be holding up fine to my style of harsh driving. With 30x9.5 BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires, this rig is capable of doing everything i need it to do, and more. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) Pros: Off Road Ready Cons: None |

Beast On Wheels — This Jeep is quick off the line and puts some big V-8's to shame. Its a 4.0L straight six, so its built to last and can handle being pushed to the limit. Its not the sexiest truck but its versatile, easy to work on, and there are alot of upgrades. Gas mileage sucks around town, Ok on the highway though. And the 4x4 is BEAST!!!! Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) Pros: Nearly indestructable Cons: Fuel |

Wish I Still Had It! — Miss this thing! She blew up around 108K due to a thrown rod and oil spilled all over the place after having some previous work done. This jeep had power, but in deep, deep snow, I worried (more than 12 inches). Love to have it again! Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: Versatile Cons: Gas Mileage |

Fun Toy — The jeep is not the best as fare as looks goes, but looks I can care less about I use it for what its suppose to be used for, not no road queen. For being a 96 it has 160xxx miles and still has a ton of power, out off al my friends jeep hi out puts and other obd 2 jeeps mine for some reason has more power, when you want to punch it on the highway is pulls on every jeep I have encounter'd. Never been stuck in mud, snow, or rock. Jeep is a gas pig 20 bucks will get me know were. Not the best at handling, death wobble like no other, and breaking is scary because of the abs, caught my breaks on fire once so unpluged the abs. Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: Its a bad ass wheeler Cons: handling, breaks, gas |

It's Okay. — The power steering goes out sometimes might be a bad pump, I'm not sure. I really wish it had a hitch so I could toe things . The gas mileage is sucks considering I get 15 miles to the gallon! But over all, it's okay. Primary Use: Family transportation Pros: It's got a lot of tourque. Cons: I HATE the color. |

This Car Will Last Forever And Take A Beating. Amazing First Car. — This car is amazing. The only thing, not quite fast enough. get a newer one, but not after 2001. Its style is classic and its built like a rock. Unfortunately its about as fast as one, but it gets the job done. Pros: Amazing. Cons: Top speed. |
