96' Vs Commodore — finding a VS commodore in good condition is hard, but if has been well looked after, they will last forever. the clear coat is peeling off on my car, but it also a common problem. roof lining falling down is also a very common problem, but thats usualy in smoked in cars. acceleration is good to get you out of stcky situations and the handling is like an orange in the ocean. parts are easy to find as they are a very common car.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: stock speakers are acctualy suprisingly good.

Cons: the bad reputation they have

Great Car, Can Be Found For Next To Nothing, Great Value For Money. — The VS Commodore was first released in april of 1995. It bought new and improved changes over its predecessor the VR although looking similar. The changed consisted of under the bonnet stuff, a new V6 engine was still 3.8 litres of capacity but thanks to a revised cylinder head design and a less restrictive intake manifold design and a revised compression ratio, it now produced more power at 147kw previous to 130 kw and torque rose from 295 nm to 304 nm. Fuel consumption was improved as well and a new gearbox was then added. My VS in particular was the limited edition Vacationer, it added the following features as standard, cruise control, air condidtioning, power windows all round, electric mirrors, speed alert and special unique paint finishes only avaliable to the Vacationer. Performance is quiet good considering it's size, it has a strong engine and will give great acceleration for a family sedan, braking is resonable and pedal has a solid feel which enspires confidence at higher speed and the handeling is quiet good considering my car only has a live rear axle. With the added option of factory duel fuel its astoundingly cheap to run and insurance is resonable too and as for servicing, its not bad either and any mechanic knows how to work on a Commodore. Build quality wise its pretty average, the dash is pretty plasticy and there is a bit of wind noise around the rear left quatar window but other than that its pretty well screwed together. Styling is alright, not a beuty contest winner but still a good looker. As far as driving is concerned, its comfortable, spacious and has a nice plush ride and can perform when asked but the dim witted 4 speed Automatic is a real let down, shift patterns are unpredictible, shifts are not smooth, and is constantly finding the right gear to be in but it gets the job done. So its resonably fun to drive and relaxing, but the auto box is a crock.

Pros: Well equiped, powerful engine, exellant ride quality, comfortable seats and very cheap to run considering that it runs on LPG and Petrol

Cons: The dim whitted automatic gearbox, some LPG cars have a bottom end rattle in the V6 engines.

Sex On Wheels — My car is a 1996 VS SS, it is my pride and joy it drives beautifuly, it looks great besides a few minor scratches on the body kit, the only thing i hate about it is that it is black and is a bugger to keep clean, and fuel is expensive, but other than that it is like a dream to drive and the power is awsome!!!

Pros: power, and its sounds nice!!

Cons: fuel consumption and the price of fuel

Vs Commodore — the vs commodore is a fun car to drive but it chews a bit of juice i only get 300 to 400 k's per tank. its a pain with the tyres having a camber because the inside of the wear out and the outside dont. im also anoid that it wont do a brake job unless you can get the revs up to 3000rpm but by then it has usually tryed to push the brake pedal back out. the roof lining sags, and with a 2 peice tail shaft the centre bearings sometimes go. The biggest problems i have found is that the heater leaks at my toes and the brakes keep warping even with sports discs

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: the response is good

Cons: feul consumption

Ute — Its a ute, you can do anything in it, part from putting sub-woofers in the back seat. Goes well, nice to drive, performance is ok, But will be better in the future. 2-1/2 inch lowering springs, HSV headers, sports exhaust, for more torque, sport steering wheel, new paint in the roof and bonnet and front end, Fun boys toy, for picking up supplies, bike parts, transporting projects, etc...

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

Pros: Its a ute

Cons: the back seat

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: just an all round awesome car for its age and value

I Would Recommend This Car But It's A Little Old Now — Performance 147kw not fantastic handling was ok but noise vibration from the tunnel was shocking under power. Build quality was good parts fitment wasn't great to look at Appearance not a bad looking car Cost was a little expensive to run and replace parts at the time of ownership. This car was ok to drive, looks great done up

Pros: Nice and large, can fit a lot of things in the car esp car audio

Cons: noise vibration
