1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Z34 FWDReview

The Car With The Unfixable Engine — The Car drives good up to about 85k, then the check engine light comes on that it's misfiring, and almost every sensor goes bad.

Pros: Easy standard maintenance

Cons: Tune-ups are a pain because you have to remove the intake manifold to change 3 plugs.

1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Z34 FWDReview

Tire-smoking Power And Supermodel Looks — The 1996 Chevy Monte Carlo Z-34 is a racy, NASCAR-inspired two-door sport coupe. The vehicle has ample power from the 3.4L engine, and the available exterior and interior accessory options make for a very personalized vehicle. The LS coupe came with a 3.1L V-6 engine, which is known for blowing head gaskets (same engine as the Chevy Cavalier). The Z-34 is an excellent powerhouse which is hard to work on, based on how it is sandwiched into the engine compartment, but which on the whole will not spend too much time being worked on anyway, as it is a driver, not a trailer queen. The interior on these is large enough that a tall guy can drive the car comfortably (a problem for me with newer cars). This is what drew me to the vehicle.

Owner for 1 years, 0 months

Miles Driven per Year:10,000

Pros: Lots of power, sporty look, interior quality good.

Cons: Basic maintenance hard to perform -- spark plugs hidden under cowling at rear of engine, require intake manifold removal to access back 3 plugs.
