1994 Mazda RX-7 Turbo RWDReview

Yepper — awesome in one word really. Expensive, not great on gas, performance and looks to die for. What more to say? I guess a 3 rotor n/a is going to be the best thing you could possibly add, but other than that its great the way the car came from the factory. Pros: looks, handling, easy to upgrade, Cons: expensive to repair |

My Rx-7 — Love how it looks, and how eager it is to go sideways! with the fairly inexpensive mods she now has she's a valve and cylinder free pocket rocket! downsides .... it does tend to squeak and rattle a little now and the standard seats (now upgraded) are awful! overall though an absolute classic. Pros: Power, looks, reliability Cons: original interior |

Worlds Least Expensive Exotic. — with the exception of the price tag and the cost to fix it when I broke it this was by far the most exciting toy I ever owned. It is truly the cheapest exotic in the world. This car is a dream especialy if you like to modify cars, there is no end to the engine and body mods you can buy or build. THIS IS NOT A CAR FOR NEW DRIVERS!!!, even in its most mellow configuration this car can and will eat almost anything. There are a few times I scared myself with mine. Laugh, Love, Drift!!! Pros: Just about everything about this car is perfect for me. Cons: THIS IS NOT A CAR FOR A NEW DRIVER! The down side is the rising cost of fule and Mods are not always cheep either. |

Fd3s — I love this car very much. As long as you take care of your rotary engine and feed it the right kind of oils it runs awesome. Pros: Faster then alot of cars 2 to 3 times the price range. TURBO, HIGH REVING, Great handling. Cons: Nothing I can really think of if you love true sports cars. |

Wonderful Performer — Very impressive sport car. Rotary engine is amazing! Rev to red line without even noticing.... Lucky there's a "beep" sound when approaching red line. Otherwise, I've already blown a few engines. Pros: light, good handling Cons: suck gas, high maintenance |

Fun Car — The RX7 FB style is classic Mazda. So far ahead of its time when produced. The rotary engine un-modified is a very reliable engine and a blast to drive because of its high reving nature. This engine has a garret 40 turbo boosting 17 psi on race fuel which is pushing the limits of the apex seals. This set up produces 495hp to the wheels which is more than enough. I have a love hate relationship with this car because it keeps breaking. Really fun until that happens. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) Pros: FB RX7's are hard to find in good condition today. They will always be sought after. If you get tired of fixing the rotary you always have the option of dropping an LS motor in it Cons: Very few qualified Rotary engine builders and tuners. |

Angry Little Mazda — This is a low mileage FD body style Rx7 that has been built from the ground up for track racing. The stock versions are great reliable cars. This engine has been modified to accept 22 pound of boost from a garret 40 turbo. At this pressure you must run 115 octane race fuel or risk loosing your apex seals to predestination. The rotary engines have great power to weight numbers and red line at 8500 rpm. They do not have much low in torque but make big horsepower once they spin up a bit. There are lots of aftermarket aerodynamic kits and carbon fiber products and this car has several incorporated into its body and powertrain. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) Pros: An RX7 13 B rotary FD body style making 495hp Cons: Rotary engines pushed to this horse power break a lot. It is hard to find good mechanics and tuners for Rotary engines. Rotary engines are not fuel efficient. |
